Get off my lawn!

Howdy Jeff. So, are back the harness of working for a living?
Yesterday after I changed the oil on my Elky I did the routine short test drive to bring it to full operating temp. I hit the windshield washers when a bird had perfect aim and got me while rolling at 50 MPH. They did not squirt. So I got back home and cleaned up that mess manually, and checked the washer pump. I could hear it run, but nothing squirted. It is a 30 second operation to pop it out and pull the hoses off. I tried it with a 12 volt connection and a cup of water. It runs but does not pump. It is all sealed up and manufactured to be disposable, not rebuilt. So off to the parts store, NAPA. They are the local warehouse, but it is in Dallas and it was 16 bucks, but they wanted 5 bucks shipping. I looked at them and said screw paying for shipping, I will get it on Amazon for free shipping and likely less money. They looked at me like I was from the future. They said they can waive the shipping. So I will go got it tomorrow. I should have ordered it on Amazon. It would be delivered to my door, same price.

Great day in the morning.
When I had a pet owl noticed when they poop it amounts to around 8 fluid ounces. Hope the Elky didn't get targeted by a bird that big. Know owls roost and nest in the big cottonwood tree in my back yard now. Gladly have not seen any owl poop...Or any of those bone balls they yak.

I’m slowly getting components reinstalled into the Z. Yesterday, I installed some new R134A A/C parts, a new clutch master cylinder, the pedal box I refurbished, the steering column, etc. I’ll probably be back in the garage this afternoon, unless the call of the sea is strong.

The battery died on one of the 172s we lease. Since we are responsible for 100% or any maintenance costs outside of an engine failure, we "get" to buy a new battery. OUCH!
Of course no one keeps them in stock locally, so we had to have it shipped for overnight delivery. Oh, and since acid is a hazardous material, no acid. So the FBO had to run to a place several miles away to get some acid. Fill up the battery, do some charging and testing and then install it and dispose of the old battery. Now this is a battery smaller the size of one in a very small sports car so it is fairly small. OUCH! ouch ouch.

Yea, it is a cost of doing business, just like the lease payment and the fuel, but WE still have to pay for it up front. We might see a few dollars off of the tax bill. but not much.

Good Monday all.
We use a Garmin because it does much better than Google maps or MapQuest in the car. Some of the new cars have the touch screen sitting up out of the dash like an afterthought and it would be in the way to use a Garmin GPS. I would NOT buy a car with a screen like that. ![]() ![]()

Yea, at Parade in Missouri we went to lunch with some friends. Since we had a 4 door car they rode with us. I did not go up to the room to get our Garmin and it is slow to program a destination. Our Macan has the Apple talk. I can display the phone contents right on the dash. So I asked Siri to find the restaurant by name. She drove us to a shopping center and the folks we rode with had seen the restaurant before and knew that was not right. So the lady in back pulled up her Android version. It was wrong as well. Finally I used Google maps on my phone and we got there. So three different maps, and three different destinations.
To be fair, the Garmin has let us astray as well. At the same event we were using the Garmin to get us to a grocery story. At a roundabout we took the 2nd exit as directed, but it was not the correct "2nd exit" and it said recalculating. It took us down a residential road that got less and less developed. Finally into someones driveway and it wanted us to continue. I turned around and went back towards the roundabout. We made the correct turn and got to the grocery store. The Garmin has done that many times. And it has the most current updates.

funny I have never been sent on a wild goose chase with the one in my RDX. I have had addresses it couldn't find which signaled the need for an upgrade.

THE RDX did get grumpy one day while driving on a road the GPS didn't think existed. Same problem needed an upgrade.

Well some roads are just not on a map. We were on one of the tours to the Warm Springs ranch in MO. They deliberately took us on curvy back roads and not down the highways. MO has some nice roads. At one point we came up to the City of California, MO. The road we were on was not on the map at all. We were just driving on a blank yellow screen. It was a nice road, not a new road, and I updated it right before the trip. It was just a little used road and nice!

When on the 928 tour drives in and around 3rd Coast TX. The Organizers tell us in the driver's meeting that we will get lost if we try to use GPS, and provide paper printouts of the route. Which I have still gotten lost using. Luckily I happened upon the club cab truck full of wives shopping that knew the way to the luncheon destination. I only had to endure one shipping stop. It was a place selling yard art and they bought some. It all looked like junk to me, metal and iron work, but still junk to me. Who needs a 3 ft tall T-Rex painted psychedelic colors?

Yea, the temps are back in the normal range. So far this month we are 4.5 degrees below normal. I am pretty sure no one is complaining about that. Well maybe the stockholders in the electric company and the local water park.
We finally got the registration back from the FAA. Typical government, it only took them 7 weeks to process the forms. The bad new is now we get to pay the State of Oklahoma a big wad of money for the excise tax on the airplane. After that it is just 20 bucks per year to register the airplane.

Think of Doctors appointments right after school starts is just an excuse to get off work and have the house to yourselves. Just be careful not to cause an May-June burpdays. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
