Might not let him touch it again if he treats it like that.

Stijn!!
Yea, I have a car show on Saturday afternoon. Tomorrow’s drive is over after lunch time. I will have time to wash it and clean it up. We have a 1/2 day drive on Saturday morning, then the actual real and for true parade through the downtown area, the the car show.
The 918 is back again this year. It is as dirty as my 911, and on the road getting driven. Cool. The really fun drive will be on the way home. I am going a “bit” out of the way. Driving on some of THE best roads on the planet, or at least the USA. |
Glen, I don't understand what you're talking about. What happened with your car? Rain? What's that?
|
Its like taking a shower. only its outside and mother nature typically doesn't heat it for you.

Really? Amazing!

Yep, I've actually ridden my 10 speed bike on some of those roads when in HS. Went on vacation with my best friend's family. We were really into 10 speed biking and took our bikes.
Spent the first week at my grandma's in Pryor OK. and biked all around the town I was borned in. The next town, Salinad 22mi East where the best restaurant was, their big thing was Apple Dumplings for desert, Biked North 27 to the southern part of Grand Lake where my granddad used to have a boat house. Then off 21mi to the West to see the Will Rodgers museum in Claremore. His parents picked us up at my Grandma's and took us to the Grand Lake resort where the Porsche Parade was held years later. Met his Dad's business partner and his family there. He had a daughter our age my friend was sweet on whom ended up his wife. They also took us over into Arkansas and rode our bikes all around a couple of fancy resorts over there. We would take off on a ride from one resort to another meeting his parents and the rest there. There are two things that stand out in my memory from that vacation. One more than the other. First was riding our 10 speeds we could get up enough speed that we could draft trucks and make incredibly good time. Once you got in a draft it was pretty easy to stay there. Especially on the back road two lane highways. The most significant was at the Grand Lake Resort. We were supposed to move from rooms to a condo. Friends Dad gave us the keys and condo number. We rode our bikes over while everyone else was packing to move. His Dad said he would be right over to check it out as well. We let ourselves in and started checking the place out. It was NICE. We were in the large living area that had bedrooms on a second floor with a balcony overlooking the living area with two story windows looking out over the lake. We heard a noise and looked up. There on the balcony above us was a mid 20's blonde young lady...naked and drying her hair with a towel. We all three just stopped in our tracks and looked at each other. Don't know how much time passed before his Dad walked in an saw the situation. He grabbed us two obviously aroused 15yo boys starting at a naked 20 something blonde and ushered us out apologizing to her. She never said a thing, or tried to cover herself up, just looked back and forth at us slow going thru the motions of drying her hair, And continued to just watch as his Dad ushered us out. He followed us back to the room then went to the front office. He was at the reservation desk for some time. Instead of moving to the condo, or staying in the rooms, we left and went to a resort in Arkansas. |
Jim, yes just a long day of rain. That is just road dirt as a layer of brown. It wipes off. It is what happens when cars are driven in rain and not locked in the garage.
|
Come on Glen...that’s just crazy talk. :D

Stijn!!
My 911 will turn 169,000 miles tomorrow. It gets driven. That is why I bought it. They are LOTS more fun to drive than dust the car under a car cover in the garage.
The 918 is here again this year. It is getting real dirty and wet. |
Knew a guy that had an NSX. He rarely drove it and never let it get wet. When he sold it he said that was a horrible decision because it only made a couple of hundred dollars difference in the selling price.
I've always felt I would not be a very good keeper of a collector car because I woiuld drive and enjoy it. |
Before the trip I had my 911 on the lift tinkering, and inspection. The fender wells are black with road grime and I am not going to spend hours cleaning them. No one can see them in normal operation. The concours winning cars have pristine fender wells, and the suspension parts look like a catalog of new plated perfect looking parts. My suspension works great, but it is dirty.
It is a cold day here, and tomorrow morning is gonna be real cold. Lots of cars weird summer tires around here. It will be a slow driving group until tires warm up. |
There is a 928 guy in Tulsa that does no drive his 929 GT if rain is forecasted even if he can't participate without it. His car is pristine top and bottom including fender wells. He is the guy I bought my 90 928GT from. It was show room clean when I got it.
The first year he drove his other 928 to the Texas GTG they teased him by giving him a dirtiest car award. Most years he drives his Jeep Cherokee to the event because of weather. If there is just a forecast of higher humidity or if it is going to dew or be foggy in the mornings he drives the Jeep. He is a bank president and also runs the 928 registry. Because of running the registry he keeps track of all 928s and what they sold for. Told me I should sell my GTS for $100K based on what they are selling for. Haggerty doesn't list the 94 for that much. However one sold at Southerby's last month for $120. |
We had snow here.
I have driven the Cobra in the rain several times. Once, I even had the top on. It ins't pleasant but it isn't any less pleasant with the top on. Actually, I removed the bow posts and clips so I can't even use the top any longer. I once drove it with snow on the roads. Yeah, that was fun. |
Don't know if any of you follow Max on FB but he had to evacuate due to a CA wild fire. Says he had to leave the 911 at a park-n-ride and hope for the best.

No FB in our family so thank you for the update.

Well lots of bends as the roads in this area curve more than go straight. That is the “guest house” https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d58a151f41.jpg On wall on one of the bedrooms in the guest house. Unbelievable high quality workmanship. Totally cool. One guy has been working on it for 25 years. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6eb119c9f5.jpg This is the fireplace in the main house. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...236eb33058.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...03bc6706f2.jpg Small part of the main house. |
