Golly what a fun day.
We have a Buffalo TS-8VH24TL/R6. Eight drives and it started having issues. It was a Raid with one hot spare so in theory two drives could fail and still not lose data. Evidently we lost two drives at nearly the same time. Evidently when my business partner replaced the he somehow swapped tow of the other drives in the wrong slots. It was trashed. So he tried to re-format it and start fresh. After almost two months is was still checking drives. So something was FUBAR. He pulled each drive out, and deleted all the partitions on every drive. That will force it to rebuild fro scratch he figured. Well he was right, now it only has a boot failure. The firmware for the system is on those drives. In digging around on the internet I found a place that had a similar issue, and he has the steps to rebuild the firmware. It is 100% Linux. So he starts out with format a boot USB drive and assumes the reader is familiar with Linux. I am not that person. So now I need to find someone with basic knowledge of Linux to walk me through it and interpret the instructions. Otherwise we have 8 - 3 TB drive in a neat box as a paperweight. |
I also decide to carry on the fun, and go and mow the yard. The cold weather grass was really happy and tall. I was way tall. The Bermuda grass is just starting to wake up. So I took it down one notch from last fall. Golly it was fun.

Nephew's kid comes over...Rakes up all the spiney balls from the danged sweet gum, raked and picked up all the limbs shedded by the cottonwood, then mowed the fescue. He was fast. Only took him 2 hours. Then it started thundering and rained more. It was nice that it didn't rain for 3 days so the lawn almost dried out.
|
We have had over 1/2 of on inch of rain since I mowed. That is one reason I mowed yesterday. We had gone almost two days with no rain. It was still pretty soft ground.
It is done for now, but I suspect it will grow again and I will need to do it again. |
Just put in my grocery order. The only thing it said was out of stock was meat exept for bacon and hot dogs. no buns though. Yesterday most everything was out of stock. We we see what they really have when the shopper starts shopping.
|
Welp...got all the grorceries on the list except for salmon dog food or ice cream in individual cups.
Going to have a lot of BLT sammuches this week since there wasn't any meat except for bacon, hotdogs, and expensive ribeye steaks. My shopper said there were limits on most things. And some of the people she shopped for were pissed because of the limits. Told her due to health issues i've been using instacart for several months and shop for just one week at a time and not a month! When very young overheard my grandmother say she would be happier if they could eat fresh instead of out of the freezer. I liked frozen hotdogs, they were like meat popsicles! Grandma is the only one that would give them to me. Started when asked her if I could try one before she boiled it. |
I have not left the property since the Friday night run to the restaurant. I will make a beer and banana run tomorrow sometime. Back home.
|
Oh man, Zarate's was doing togo and delivery. Now they are closed until further notice.
|
I suspect the to go orders are more expensive for them to make up, and they likely don't have enough orders to pay the basic electric bill, and the cost of food.
No doubt tons of foods at restaurants across the country will go bad and be trashed. I would bet a lot of restaurants don't survive this. |
morning once again from the remote office aka the dining room. Spent most of the weekend home but went out shopping. Took two stores to get a weeks worth of food for 3 people. Not a single roll of TP to be had.
|
I made my morning run for bananas and apples. The local Braum's had a few apples left, but only red delicious (not my favorite) and a decent election of bananas. No lunch meats, in fact no meat at all. They had a good selection of bread, but I did not need any.

Dropped the Pepper off for shots and a grooming. She hasn't beem since my wreck and then she went into heat. Man, she is too excited to go to that place. Almost pulls me over. Otherwise she heals really well.
Wonder if the maid is going to phone it in today? |
our vet has gone to park and call to tell us your here. They will come out get your pet then call you from the office if needed.

I am still beating on the Buffalo RAID box. It is a neat little box, with 8 hard drives, and a little PC computer in it. Normally it runs on a version of Linux that Buffalo sets up to manage just the RAID. If I knew more about Linux, it would be easy to repair. The folks on-line have simple instructions, if you are a little proficient in Linux. I am useless.
I did find folks that have just replaced the OS with Linux, and set it up that way. So I figured I would install Mint on it. Worst case, is I have to pull the drive out and format it again to start over. Mint seems to be installing just fine. I need to find someone that understands Mint just a little to give me some adult supervision and to a few steps. https://buffalonas.miraheze.org/wiki/Create_Recovery_Disk_for_Intel-based_Terastation I hate being ignorant. I guess I can find a Linux for dummies reference and learn what the heck a grub is besides food, and go from there. |
buy a boat and tell it you plan to need an anchor...………...

My Vet/Groomer has a foyer they meet you in. They put their own collar/leash on the dog and have you remove yours.
They sure are taking a long time to give her a bath and trim her nails. Think they really like her cause she turns into a puppy, wiggling, turning circles, rolling, and begging for attention around new people. |
Our vet has foyer as well. Its more about not wanting people interaction.

One of my wife's knitting friends has changed over to making masks for hospital workers. She went to several stores and could not find any of the elastic needed to make the masks work without tying a bow which is really slow.
My wife was chattng with her on the phone and remembered she had some elastic and went digging in her sewing stuff. She found one package of it with a TG&Y price tag on in. TG&Y has been gone for a long long time. Maybe it will still be OK. If not, I am pretty sure my wife will not need it after all that time. |
They didn't tell me not to bring her in?
Doesn't seem to make much difference, foyer or car. |
Maybe you can get the elastic out of underwear at a cheap cothing store.
You could use the cloth as a TP replacement. Just don't let the hospital workers see Hanes or Fruit of the Loom on the masks! |
