No doubt tons of foods at restaurants across the country will go bad and be trashed.

I would bet a lot of restaurants don't survive this.

I have a cousin that has a restaurant in a town of 5000 or so. She is having a hard time keeping up with the carry out and delivery orders. Lots of rural area there and of course this is fish fry season here.

Maybe you can get the elastic out of underwear at a cheap cothing store.

You could use the cloth as a TP replacement.

Just don't let the hospital workers see Hanes or Fruit of the Loom on the masks!

Have seen people using hair ties for the loops over the ears. I would think they would be a little too strong, but if it works?

Maid just called. Not showing up today. She is working full time and extra hours instead of part time at her local walmart deli slicing meat and cheese people are buying since there is no meat.
Says Walmart is packed with people wearing those paper masks and blue gloves.

Also my gut doc called and move my appointment to the end of May.

Argh.

My head hurts. I will stop fighting with the Linux stuff for now. Every bit of information I seem to find tells me I can reload the Buffalo firmware on the Raid system if I were just a little knowledgeable in Linux. I did manage to load a bootable copy of Linux Mint, and even did the software updates needed on the RAID box. That will let me maybe format and do the Grub2 operations to make a bootable USB drive to restore the factory firmware. But the instructions are all written by someone that assumes the user is a Linux old hand and understands the basics.

I hate the feeling of overwhelming ignorance.

At least the box does run Linux Mint with no issues on one of the drives.

The good new is we are not in a big hurry or desperate for the box to go back on line.

Sorry, am mac power user and so so on pc, but never messed with linux even though macs are supposed to be a variant of unix.

Apple had a big fast file server runing unix, but only one model then dropped it and came out with the mac rack servers.
Then the mac server stuff was a tool set you added to mac os.
Now they dropped the tool set and you just turn on or install the features in mac os.
Almost all their server tools were public domain free stuff anyway.

I would have thought Buffalo would have a boot from USB to restore the environment to factory defaults. Must be a way since you can buy the boxes empty.

There is a way, but it requires a Linux computer to format and load the files on that thumb drive. Then boot the raid from the usb thumb drive.

Buffalo will sell that usb drive for a nice price. I have not found what it is as yet. Their tech support is legendary bad.

You can boot Mint form a CD on a computer and create your USB Boot drive that way.

I have a boot USB of mint. Heck, the raid computer is running mint right now as an experiment. I can pull that one drive format it and be back to clean empty drives.

My problem is understanding the step by step methods of using grub to make a new bootable usb drive with the files I have downloaded from Buffalo. Just my frustrating ignorance of Linux. I can get all the files one one USB and format the other one with Linux to make it work if I knew the commands.

Miss going out to lunch on Tuesdays. Since my stroke have only left the house for doctor appointments or Tuesday lunch.
Makes a big difference if you can't walk very far without getting tipsy and risk falling.
Think maybe it's more just crazy than stir crazy or cabin fever.

GH85Carrera 03-24-2020 09:08 AM

We are supposed to be in the 80s maybe 90 on Thursday. I am gonna get my shorts out for tomorrow and the next few days! Whooo Hooo.

Been keeping my therostat at 72°F all winter. Moved it up to 73°F couple of days ago and couldn't sleep at night because I was sweaty. Guess I need to monkey with the setback settings so it is warmer during the day and 72 at night.

Didn't want to mess with the setback stuff so it wouldn't try to run the heater when it stayed cool during the day. Guess will just leave it on 72 until it starts getting consistently warmer during the day and I needs some AC to keep from getting sweaty.

Wish I could monkey with the thermostat from my computer or iPhone. But the thermostat is supplied from my electric company so it will receives radio signals to save money during summer. It does a thing where they send a signal, then it pre-cools my house 4 degrees starting at 11am then turns the AC off from 2pm to 7pm unless the house gets hotter than 2 to 4 degrees above what I have it set for. Afternoon temp depends on how hot it gets. Electricity is cheaper until it gets hot, then from 2 t0 7 it is more expensive depending on how hot it gets. It maintains the warmer temp until 7pm. At 7pm it drops to my night setting. They call it smart thermostat.

It's interesting that I don't really notice the warmer temps during the day and I am here all day. My house does take a while for the indoor temps to rise and still feels cooler when it is hotter inside when it is even hotter outside. Looking at my bills with the smart temps my summer electric bills are about the same as my winter electric bills. Looks like it saves about $100 a month with the smart thermostat.

Still which I could monkey with it from my computer and phone though.

With geothermal it costs less to set it and forget it. We estimate $800 for heating and cooling costs per year. You all have cheap electric rates.

10 inches last night. Boy was that fun plowing today........NOT.

Afternoon all. On the commute this morning I was followed by a black and white the whole time. Darn if that Boston terrier just wanted out use the lawn.

Well 48 hours from yesterday we will be in total lockdown state wide. All nonessential people are to stay home or work from home.

flipper35 03-24-2020 12:03 PM

That black and white you might be able to outrun, but they know where you live!

Porsche-poor 03-24-2020 12:14 PM

not sure I can out run that little beast

GH85Carrera 03-24-2020 12:26 PM

That black and white likely crapped on your lawn!

Porsche-poor 03-24-2020 12:33 PM

yep she did. better there than on the commute path.

Pepper is glad she got to go to vet/groomer. They told me she was having alergy problems. With her it manifests itself by her getting a little itchy and having ear infections. Besides getting all cleaned up with an bath and comb out, she is all drugged up with antibiotics and anti-itch pills. Thank goodness she likes those pill hider treats. Sleeping most of the time since getting home.

My first golden, Penny, had allergy problems except her skin got much itchier and swole up to where she looked like a shar pei. Had to keep a benadyl syringe around for her. Turned out she was allergic to FLEAs! Found out when she had a reaction after leaving a friends. On the way to the car she went next door and smelled a bush. Only a couple of seconds. When we got home her skin was swollen and she was scratching like crazy. I picked over 400 fleas off her, gave her a flea bath and a benadryl shot. Had to follow up with benadryl pills (like people take) for several days. Vet said yep, allergic to fleas. I ended up going to a feed store and getting a cow flea and tick ear tag. Cut it in strips and put them inside a nylon collar. Didn't have much trouble after that, evidently those cow tags are pretty strong.

May have to make a collar for Pepper to see if it is fleas or not. Her bites seem to be on her head and neck instead of her lower back near her tail like Penny.

I'm okay as long as my commute path doesn't go over the couch.
