Back in my bachelor days, and the only time I ever had a roommate, (duplex mate?) we had a spare refrigerator in the garage, just next to the door to the garage. No joke, we had a x marked on the floor in front of the beer fridge. It was always stocked with a wide variety of beers. From really good German lagers (yum) to some really cheap beers like Old English or Colt 45. They were all mixed up, and in random order.

We had lots of buddies come over to help drink our beer. Our rule, close your eyes, turn in a circle once, then reach in to get a random beer. That was what you had to finish before you could go back for more.

One of my long time favorites is Guinness Extra Stout. One needs to be a real beer lover to enjoy it. It is very dark heavy stout beer. Most casual beer drinkers hated it. It was a million times better than a Pabst Blue Ribbon or Coors Light in my opinion.

Porsche-poor 07-08-2020 07:56 AM

I like a good red ale or amber. Not much into Guinness. Had a real one in Ireland last year still didn't care for it.

GH85Carrera 07-08-2020 08:11 AM

Guinness is best when fresh from a tap, and if the draw is done right. At the Parade hotel in West Baden, IL they had a neat little bar next to the front door. It was cool to sit there and watch everone walk in and see them look up in amazement at the hotel, and enjoy a Guinness on tap done to perfection.

The artwork everywhere, and the stature make it a amazing place. Until the Houston Astrodome was built it was the largest domed structure on the planet for over 100 years. And the Guinness was great too.

upside-down but great picture.

I have yet to find a beer worth drinking. Not that I have tried real hard.

Know anyone looking for a job in IT. The IT Director is a jerk :) , but the people are nice. Mostly.

My Mother in Law is moving to Arkansas. Her husband thinks it is too humid in SW Wisconsin. I don't understand people.

Once again, Apple ignores the rest of the world, and rotates photos in some mysterious fashion only they understand. This is opened in Photoshop, and saved.

much better. I was getting worried I was on the wrong side of the world.

Dated a girl whose parents had a fridge in the garage just for beer. It was so they could keep it colder than the food fridge. It only had Coor tall boy's. They required the cans to be crushed and put in a specific trash bag. One Saturday we took 9 big trash bags full of crushed cans to recycle. The local Coors distributor bought the emplty cans. That was back when there were still glass pop bottles. Seem to remember getting a litte over $7 for all those bags of cans.

Our airplane uses a special aviation oil, as do most all piston engine airplanes. It is made by Phillips and it is X/C 20/50. For years we just went to a local distributor just a mile from the old office, placed an order, and paid with a credit card. Easy transaction. Go to the loading dock, and they loaded it in.

They were bought out after many long years in business, and the entire oil business moved to Stroud, OK. That is a the city 1/2 way to Tulsa, so a 45 mile drive from my house. But wait, they deliver once per week. OK, but they want me to fill out a 5 page credit application to open an account, that we will use a credit card, and pay as we buy. Crap. So we just stay a "cash" customer, and order two cases of oil at a time. I called today to get more oil. It was like asking for a bottle of prune juice at a bar. She could not find our past orders, and she had no clue on what the oil was. She was going to have a salesman call me back.

I figured what the heck, I wonder it Amazon has it. Yep, and it is cheaper. Two cases will be here on Friday, delivered to my door. It took just minutes to get it the order placed as usual. No wonder so many places are going under and Amazon stock is $3,040 per share. I wish I had bought a lot of it when it was cheap, the stock, not the oil.

Porsche-poor 07-08-2020 10:40 AM

Amazon has everything. No fuss no muss. Or at least everything I have ever needed.

Back when I started my lessons there was a big issue with the Shell oil at the time. Seems the little gasket would fall into the oil and then get into the engine. Any time we topped off and we used Shell we had to verify the gasket was still in the lid or no flying.

GH85Carrera 07-08-2020 12:35 PM

I know there are alternatives, and the only reason I order the Phillips is that is what our mechanic and every other aircraft mechanic use. The ironic part it is cheaper than the Brad Penn oil I order for my 911 and el Camino. Since bother are flat tappet engines, the Brad Penn is the best choice for me. I just hope we get to go to TBO or even a little beyond if possible. We will be doing an engine swap in a couple of years at our current rate of flying.

flipper35 07-08-2020 12:56 PM

Yup, just use what the mechanics use. Don't worry about TBO, just get a crate like your EC! What could possibly go wrong?

Actually, in one of those if I did a swap I would get an STC for the jet a burner.

GH85Carrera 07-08-2020 01:05 PM

The jet engine is just kinda pricey. They even make a diesel version. It ain't gonna happen.

We order a crate engine, that is remanufactured to new specs. We have it on the shelf waiting for the day the aircraft is pulled out of service. It will likely happen at an annual. Our 182 is in annual right now. At our last job the company bought a 1965 Cessna 206 back in 1969. It had the factory 21 ince hole in it for the 500 pound camera. That company put 14 engines on the 206. It had a ton of hours on the airframe. It was some sort of ugly, but mechanically it was 100% solid. It was just a work truck.

flipper35 07-08-2020 01:28 PM

Yes, the diesel burns jet a.

Saw a info facts thing on Youtube tv. They said Exon has enough crude oil in reserves to meet the current world demand for 14 years.

They also said Dave Thomas was given stock to make changes at Kentucky Fried Chicken because it was going banckrupt. Said he came up with the red and white stripes, buckets, offered few menu items and had the colonel do tv ads. After KFC started making profits again he sold his stock back to KFC for enogh money to start Wendy's. Not just one Wendy's, but the whole chain.

Also the largest retailer in the world is the Chinese company that represents most all the Chinese manufacturers. It makes more than Walmart and Amazon put together. And they do not handle warehousing or shipping.

Costco is 2nd in profits to WalMart store wise but does not do any advertising.

Chocolate is different in UK and Europe than USA. In USA it has more sugar and less chocolate and less fat. Even candy with the same name taste completely different.

The apple that makes up the Apple logo has a bite taken out becuase without the bite the designer thought it looked too much like a cherry.

Well crap, first the Oklahoma State Fair canceled, then the Texas State fair is canceled. There go two regular projects. And to top it off, the Porsche Palooza is canceled. That is the really fun three days of driving the wonderful curvy roads of Arkansas. My company did not fly it, but I sure enjoyed the curvy roads and the group of people.

Dang Wuhan flu.

Porsche-poor 07-09-2020 06:24 AM

Our fair was cancelled as well. Its Covid-19 not a flu. My office is closed and gone till January and the wife's law office is watching all the signs for closing back up with the spikes around here.

RKDinOKC 07-09-2020 08:13 AM

People have gone nuts not protecting themselves with the "opening back up."

Tell people I don't go anywhere and disinfect everything that I have delivered and they say I don't need to do that anymore. I say yeap, that's exactly why the spike!

Porsche-poor 07-09-2020 08:15 AM

to true. We still have not gone out to eat only do take out or delivery.

Still waiting to hear about fall college in CA.
