I for sure had the only air cooled car on the grid. Just 3 run groups, with 5 cars each. So lots of track time. I was completely pooped after 6 - 20 minute sessions. My face hurts from grinning. They were going to keep running until 5:00 PM. I gave up at 3:30 so I missed out on two sessions.

The weather was fantastic. It was "only" up to mid 80s as I left, with steady breeze and very pleasant in the shade of the canopies they have there. I never even used my cool vest.

I did consistently run a 1:44 which is not bad for a 100% street car. I had 3 pretty new Corvettes in my run group, only one was on slicks and trailered. And one 996 911. All the cars had more HP and I passed the 996, and could stay with the street Vettes. They did not run off and leave me at all.

Dang, no doubt the most fun one can have in a car with their clothes on.

I used an app on my phone called Track Addict. It works pretty cool. It knows to start recording as I get on the track. I have to tell it to stop recording which is weird.

I just hit 90 on the back straight, which is redline in 3rd. The entire track is second and third for me. I likely could cut off a few seconds if I was willing to abuse the transmission and downshift in more corners. I felt proud to have run down a 996 911 driven by a guy that has done many track days. The Corvettes with a lot more power could slowly pull away on the long straights, but I could catch up on the braking and corners. For 35 year old street car with no ABS, no traction control, no power steering and NONE of the other computer aided gizmos at all, and a slow shifting 915 transmission my old car did great.

flipper35 06-24-2020 07:32 AM

The 'vette is heavy compared to your car.

GH85Carrera 06-24-2020 07:50 AM

No doubt, but has has WAY more HP, and ABS, and lots more computers to help him drive. Likely double or more than my HP.

I would love to have some Porsche pro driver take my car around the track and ride along with him to see just what my car can do. No doubt at all he would be several seconds faster.

I used under a 1/4 tank of gas to get there, and sucked down over 1/2 a tank on track. Miles per gallon in a single digit range when at WOT more of the track. It is really wild how much gas it can use. I had to stop on the way to get home and add 10 bucks worth of gas to be sure I was going to get home. It is just 85 miles each way.

Wow, that track pic with speeds really brought up a LOT of memories of my muchly tuned and balanced 944TurboS. Dynoed it on a portable dyno that was at the event. It did 280rwhp. Was on Yokohama track rain tires, suspension upgraded, lowered, and cornerbalanced. The fastest car I've driven from 60 to 140. It wouid just walk off and leave most other cars at those speeds.

Had to really work to keep from braking too much into the first turn to get the speed from 60 to 80. Would think I did a lot better, glance at the speedo in the apex and was only doing 60. The car would do 80, had to learn to brake later and not slow as much.

Also remember too well braking down from 140 and the pedal just going thump into the 2nd corner marked 37.7. That is where I did the scandanavian flick and slid the car sideways into and dirt tracked it around the turn.

Drivers in my session would not wave me around even though I was right behind them after the first turn. So I early apexed the turn marked 35.8 exit on the inside of the turn and pass them on the rigt powering up that hill marked 81.7. They would always exit to the outside of that turn leaving me plenty of room to go by before they could manage to move to the inside lane.

There was only one guy, Ron Forstall that we kept passing back and forth. He was in a silver RUF. He pitted and change tires a couple of times. After the session he came over and asked about my car. He was happy it was tuned and tweaked and not a regular 944Turbo. Later learned he was known for being really fast at Hallett.

GH85Carrera 06-24-2020 12:26 PM

One of the drivers hired a local instructor to help him all day. That instructor said he had been running Hallett on a regular basis of 20+ years. He said he has a Spec Miatia that has the standard engine. He said he does not lift much and almost never uses his brakes, he just turns. Any of the high HP cars can blast past in the straights, and he just reels them in on the turns.

It is just scary coming into the bus stop corner and go deeper and deeper each run. My wheels were up to 180 degrees, and the rotors were over 300+ when I got back to my spot in the covered parking.

I want to pull the pads and check them out for any issues, and maybe bleed the brake fluid. The pedal is just a bit spongy until the brakes get hot. Likely just some bubbles from the heat. The fluid is just 3 months old.

RKDinOKC 06-24-2020 12:58 PM

Yeah, the pedal went thump cause was practicing braking later and later and boiled the brake juice. Ended up getting frozen holed and slotted rotors. Painted the outside edges of the rotors with some temp sensitive paint that changed colors so you could tell what temperature they were. They got up to 750°F. So then got pads for that temp range.

Didn't have any brake boiling problems with any other cars. The GTS didn't boil but had to disconnect the wear sensors built into the pads, they kept melting and setting off the pad wear light. Oh yeah, and i change a step up with the brake bias valve to add a little more rear braking, but not enough to evoke the ABS from the rears locking up, but enough you could initilate the car starting to rotate on turn-in under braking. Put frozen holey rotors in the rear, but haven't worn the front brakes enough to put on new rotors. Plan was to change them if the rotors would ever wear out.

The 911 is all cleaned up, and the loose stuff I carry in it is all put away.

Afternoon all. Long days of project work from home. So I'll be spotty at best here.

Friggen Cobra has a short somewhere. Radiator fan doesn't run and no right side headlight, signal and taillight. Everything else works. Blows the #1 acc fuse. Fuse is a 15 amp and I have a 20 amp breaker in and it doesn't blow. I wonder if it is the fan itself.

A short? Just lengthen it!

The electrical portion of the ignition switch on my 911 is getting old and sometimes requires jiggling the key. So I ordered the electrical part of the switch. It is typical of the tech section, some say it is a 30 minute job to replace, others say it is a horrible multi hour project. I guess I will keep looking for the best thread about it. I prefer the 30 minute version!

We had to get up early once again, and this time I had to put on real slacks (Dockers) and a shirt with buttons! Yuck. My wife's aunt died recently and today was the funeral. So off we went for that, and then all the relatives were invited over to change clothes into comfortable clothing, and have some dessert.

The all just now left.

Oh, congrats (belatedly) David!

The only thing I really hate is electrical work on cars.

RKDinOKC 06-25-2020 09:12 PM

Because the wiring diagrams are in colous and the wire is in colors. Which may have nothing to do with wires actually in the car.

Took Pepper to get A bath and have the vet checked her out. She has a low thyroid problem. So have to give her 2 pills a day and get another blood test in a monthl Gotta use those pill pockets to get pills down her gullet. Otherwise she bites trying to keep you from shoving a pill down. Meds were $300!
My first golden had acne and was alergic to fleas. Had to carry a benedryl syringe for reactions. When her skin started itching and swelling had to give her a shot, then follow up with a couple of days of shoving benedryl down her. She always eagerly took the pills. Also put cattle flea and tic tag stirps inside a two layer collar. She lived 19 years.
Last Golden, Camber didn't have any issues besides just being a regular dog (not real smart). But she did speak english. She lived to 13.

GH85Carrera 06-26-2020 04:56 AM

Our female dachshund has bad allergies, and will start coughing and sneezing and hacking up phlegm if we don't give he 1/2 a benadryl tablet. I just rip the pill pocket things in half and shove a pill in there. She just snarfs them down. Teach your dog to catch popcorn, than just wrap the pill in a pill pocket and toss them to her. And unless the pill is huge, rip the pocket thing in half, and just cover the pill in the treat, and she will just swallow it.

RKDinOKC 06-26-2020 06:39 AM

When Penny had a reaction to fleas he skin would swell and get wrinkley like a shar pei. And she would get really itchy. A benedryl shot calmed the reaction down in about 10 minutes where the pills took hours.

Pepper likes big chewable one of the pills but the other two I have to use those pill pockets. She plays catch by letting it hit the floor then picking it up. That's how she plays frisbee as well. My other two goldens, nothing would hit the floor, even if dropped by accident.

When my MS brother George lived here he told Penny to stay out of his room. She would sit at the door and watch him. Every once in a while he would drop a peanut m&m by accident, but because of his MS he couldn't pick it up. He would say "Okay" then Penny would run in grab the m&m then run back and sit at the door. She was smart and very very trainable. She would not go into his room unless he told her it was okay. Even after he dropped an m&m. Sometimes i would go to talk to him and there were two or three on the floor. He would tell her okay then she would run in snarf up all three and run back out. I think she would have made a great service dog. Only had to show her how to do something once, twice at the most and she was trained. Still miss her.

GH85Carrera 06-26-2020 07:06 AM

I just put a 1/2 a pill in her pill pocket (she just weighs 12 pounds) and she gets one at every meal, morning and evening. So a continual dose. If we try to wean her off of them she starts coughing and hacking and it takes a trip to the vet and a steroid shot, and steroid and some other pill to get her healthy again. Cheaper and easier to low dose her with the benadryl all the time.

We had to make a Sam's run this morning. We had gone to the grocery store just a few days ago. I looked at the apples at the grocery store and they were pitiful, tiny little apples from Peru. At Sam's they have the Washington State beautiful large tasty apples, and fresh peaches, and lots of great fruit. It is just a shame the local grocery stores can't get the same stuff. I can't believe Sam's and Costco buys all the good apples available.

RKDinOKC 06-26-2020 07:47 AM

Sounds like me with the daily benedryl, only i take allegra. Wasn't so bad until the maid stopped coming by. Also helped getting better air filters for my furnace. They changed brands a home depot and my allergies got worse.

Have problems getting imodium and alkaseltzer and a lot of meats throught instacart delivery. They do costco and sams too.

What is a wiring diagram that you speak of?

GH85Carrera 06-26-2020 09:34 AM

It is the diagram the guy that wired up your Cobra made when the parts were assembled. You know that guy!
