Afternoon all. One short weekend in the books Its all fun and games till Monday morning hits.

I went to run an errand today and as I pulled into the driveway the trailer hitch touched the concrete. It ain't supposed to do that, and I was pretty sure I knew what was wrong. I checked, and yep, one airbag on the driver's side has blown out. I only use them for load leveling and normally run with about 4 or 5 psi in them unless there is a load, and I can pump them to 20 pounds.

They seem to pop in single sides. I bought a new pair years ago, and now I get to put the other one on. Oh joy. The good news is it is pretty simple with the lift. Remove the shock bolt on the bottom, let the trailing arm drop, and remove the spring. The air bag is inside the spring.

The car came with air shocks. Those would last about 12 months, and needed to be replaced. They were "lifetime" guaranteed, so the new ones were free, but just the time to replace them. And they were crappy shocks. So I replaced them with Bilstiens front and back, and installed the air bags. With air bags it is imperative to use Bilstiens, or the rear end rides like a pogo stick. It just keeps bouncing. Good shocks, no issue. The Bilstiens have been on there for a long time.

928 has tuned headers, x-pipe, sport cats, rear muffler bypase (RMB).
I have the parts including the smog pump to take it back to stock.
I also have Sharktuner (chip tuning soft/hardware), bigger injectors and narrow band O2 to make it run even better. Right now it is at 380rwhp vs 350 crank hp stock.

Should I include the injectors/sharktuner and/or the parts to take the exhaust back to stock in the sale or sell as is?
A factory 928 mechanic has gone thru it and says it runs great as is.

As of 4am this morning unemployment from May when furloughed to current has finally been deposited in my bank account.

It is a really good thing was able to make a withdrawl from my 401K to keep bills paid.

afternoon all. the work computer decided to not play so IT had to flush all the settings for office and start over.

Wow, it was nice in the garage today with no AC running. I got the Elky raised up, removed the rear shock bolt, got the spring out of there, and was ready to put the new bag in place and figured I would get the replacement off of the shelf. Dang extraterrestrials or the CIA broke into my garage and got on the top shelf of the storage shelf in the corner of the garage, opened the box and stole just the airbag. They put the box back in place with just the rubber hose and other parts.

So a new one is on order from Amazon. I called around locally and one dealer admitted the the air bag manufacturer does not allow them to sell direct to customers. They have to install them. Evidently Summit racing and Amazon did not get that memo.

So I did go ahead and replace the hose and the fittings "while I had it in the air" and all is ready for when I get the part tomorrow.

Porsche dealer says I can't buy Cayenne headlight assemblies directly, but the manufacuturer in Spain sells them on ebay for less than half the price, even after the import tariffs.

I bet there are dozens of Porsche dealers that will sell a Cayenne headlight. But if you can get them for 1/2 price, direct, that is better. Hopefully you will not need any as I bet they are expensive.

Got a set of two for my 2nd Cayenne for a couple of reasons. Mainly it was a Florida car and all the wiring in the headlight assembly the insulation was sun baked, cracked, and flaking. They were $700, $1600 from dealer.

Current Cayennes headlights are a little fogged, but not enough to spend $700.

Well that was hairy. Was coming back from Big Bear this afternoon in the minivan. Loaded with the family, bikes on the back, etc. And at 70 mph in the fast lane the left rear blew. Fortunately no one around us, so I drifted across 4 lanes to the next offramp. I could hear the tire start flapping at around 45 mph with two more lanes to cross. Funny how I could smell it, too. Fortunately there was an empty dirt lot next to the offramp.

But the biggest surprise was how Mrs. Noah and I could get the back of the van unloaded (bikes and gear), swap out to the space saver spare, pump it up by hand (thank goodness we brought the bikes--otherwise we wouldn't have had the bike pump), and re-pack the car within 30 minutes.

Then it was another nerve-wracking 60+ miles to get home at 55 mph. We were just lucky the tire didn't let go as we were coming down the mountain. That could have been really bad.

Glad you guys safe and nobody was hurt.

Had a "Blowout" on the Rover headed down the highway. Stupid Rover, the only way I could tell was the sound. Pretty much a non-event. Liked the full size, non-limper spare, just did not enjoy changing a tire on the side of the highway.

Currently shopping for a seat belt harness for my Golden Retriever, Pepper. Seams a lot that say they are tested does not mean they actually passed the tests and will break.

Noah, blowout are super rare now days. The only one I ever had was in my 914, and in reality it was just the innertube ripped and let all the air in a instant. I had picked up a nail, and it was just enough to shred the innertube. Back then I was running Michelin XWX tires and autocrossers reported the grip of the tire was enough to come of of the bead in hard corners on track when the tires were HOT. It was the early days of tubeless tires for high performance tires. Tubeless tires are standard on all cars except antiques with the old style wheels.

Now with tire pressure monitors most people know when a tire is low or pressure. I have survived with my old 80s cars by checking the tire pressure with my gauge.

I carry an air compressor with me in both cars. Plug into the cigarette lighter, and let electricity do the work.

I am glad you were driving and not a beginner driver. And most important no movie cameras were around. We all know on TV or movies when a car has a blowout the car then flips up into the air and explodes. Or if it goes over a cliff the second the wheels leave the ground the car explodes.

Well, the no end in sight at least means a steady paycheck. I always said I did not want a career, I just wanted a steady paycheck. Now I have my boss suckered into paying me whenever I decide I need more money. I do have to mow his yard and work on his cars and wash them and such. But I drink his beer to get even.
