WE are expecting high 90's later this week. I feel bad for her but I also don't want to spend 5k on it either.
|
Can you get a window unit for her bedroom? At least one room cool is a great thing in the heat.
My first apartment had AC only in the bedroom. It was a small AC unit, about the power of the one in my El Camino. It would keep my bedroom to 78 or 80 which is great when it is 100+ in the rest of the apartment. It was a real dump of an a garage apartment. 12 steps from the front door to the furthest corner. It had a fridge, stove, bedroom, and bathroom. All for just 90 bucks per month. That is $372 bucks per month in 2021 money. |
we may end up doing something like that.
|
Until I was in the 11th grade we never had a house with AC. I never went to one school with AC. I can remember taking a test and having sweat dripping off of my nose and dripping on the test paper.
San Marcos TX, Montgomery, AL and Oklahoma City are pretty hot in the summer. Of course people lived for hundreds of thousands of years with no AC. I will never give up my AC. BTDT, ain't going back. |
We had a tornado not far from us. It was out in a rural area so only a couple barns took the hit.
Was in the 90s here last week and the 60s this week. Got a new Citizen watch for Father's Day. |
Another nice morning. 72 degrees and a light breeze.
I have been getting a lot of pure junk text messages. All of them are from unknown callers, and they all have a convenient link to check out the deals. The latest one said I have been getting too many junk texts and to click the link to stop it. That is almost clever. I just delete it after cussing at it. The cussing does not help reduce the dang spam texts, but I feel better about it. |
morning. yeah I have been getting them to. Must be the new thing for them to try.

Have you guys already discussed Mulch or wood chips what's your favorite?
Gorilla hair slang for shredded redwood. 20 yards delivered, the dump truck holds 40 yards. Having it bulk delivered saves my back from going to Home Depot and loading bags in and out of my truck. Like it 4 inches deep lasts 2 years, keeps the weeds away. 1. The chips from the dump smell terrible and contain nails and plastic trash too. 2. The other chips are crushed wood pallets painted dark brown. 3. Forget about putting down recycled rubber chips. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624464523.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624464540.jpg |
My wife prefers shredded Cyprus wood. It does not wash away when it rains. We have ordered truck loads of top soil before but the mulch is always been in bags.
For the newest flower bad I had to borrow a buddies old F-250 and go get a few pickup loads of "rich mix" which is a compost made from the cattle yards bountiful supply of cow crap, composted for a while and that kills any and all seeds. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624467516.jpg This flower bed is way more grown up now. That took two pickup loads of soil and a lot of stone work and lots of mulch and plants. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624467666.JPG This is just after I removed all the sod and the old sprinkler heads, and the wall was still some assembly required. |
Do they even have shredded redwood in the south?
I can see an indefinite supply of Cypress in Texas. Maybe they have it in bags here, I have not bought a bag of wood chips in 20 years. Yard looks great lucky we have good soil already, but just a block away others have clay. |
Our soil is pure brick maker's delight, clay. We have to bring in soil for the flowerbeds.

I finally convinced my wife to let me kill the old land line phone number. We had had it since we moved into this house 22 years ago.
I had switched to Ooma service years ago, and that is "only" $6.95 per month plus a yearly fee. I looked at the call log and stopped after the last 75 phone calls. 100% spam junk calls, not one legitimate call. The only few people that called it were my MIL and some of my wife's friends. When we first moved in back then we got a lot of calls looking for Frontier natural gas company as evidently they had the number before us. I finally called information and asked for the number to Frontier Natural gas, and she gave me my number. So I said we have a problem, as that is my number and the phone company is giving it out in error. She said she would set up a trouble ticket and sure enough that got fixed. So that number can be someone else's junk mail line. It is dead now. |
We have nice rich soil here. Weeds love it!
|
If the clay we have is totally dry, it takes a Cutter mattock to break it up enough to shovel it up. It is brick hard.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1624473169.jpg Mine is one I got from my grandfather. If the clay is wet, it takes a shovel to get a shovel load, then a scraper to scrape off the shovel, something like a smaller shovel, and then a trowel to clean off the scraper, and a paint scraper to clean off the scraper and a stick to clean off the paint scraper. |
So what you are saying is if its wet don't dig.

I received a letter today from my insurance agent. Sure nice guys, always truly helpful, and the bastage is retiring!
He sent the letter to say end of August, he is gone, and my new agent for the same company is a guy with lots experience, from a family of agents. OK, will see. I use American National as the company and they have my house and three cars covered. The 911 is the cheapest car of the three to insure. It has an agreed value that is reasonable. The El Camino has an agreed value as well. Since I have had no claims in a while they send me a rebate check at the anniversary of my signing up. They have paid the few claims we have had over the years with zero issues. |
we had that happen years ago. The guy retired and they gave all their clients to another agent 30 min further away. Um NO!
|
I have never been to the old agents office. The national company just drafts my checking account to pay the insurance each month. When we had a hail storm several years back the agent came here to write up the claim, but he sent some inspector up on the roof to make the assessment.
When that crazed kamikaze Californian deer attacked us in the 911 my agent found me a place to get a windshield in San Diego. He sent an adjuster to look at the car, and I took it to a few good body shops knowing I was going to use one in particular that specializes in old Porsches. They paid the claim minus my deductible and my car was fixed right. I really don't care where is office is. |
We didn't either till the new one insisted on us coming to her. NEXT!
