Let's see your Laguna Seca muffler tip?

This muffler tip at Laguna was 115db and too heavy.
Installed a straight pipe, sounds better now.
Now without baffles it has a lot more raw fuel/fire at exit.
So airflow helps the exhaust exit is slightly rear facing.

This one and the cloth gets a straight pipe next.

It is not a muffler, just an tip on my stock muffler. There is decorative tip on there now. It just taps on as a real tight fit. I just had to tap it off, and slide this on, and clamp it down. I was told that the stock 911 muffler is only too loud at 6,000+ RPM and under full load, and just a little too loud. So turning the sound down to the ground was enough. I never really worried about it. It would be interesting to see if it really makes a difference in total decibels or not. I figured it weight about a pound, and was easy enough to pack. You can see where the paint was burned off. It hangs on the wall near the ceiling in my garage. It has not been used since 2014.

most street car track days are 92db limited.
They have 3 sound free weekends in July and August, like to do them all.

I do remember my engine screaming at full throttle in 5th gear at high 5,000s of RPM and lots of wind noise on Charlotte Super-speedway. They required us to run with windows down, and at 130+ MPH it was loud.

My big claim to fame was passing a 911 GT2 on track in the infield. The owner's wife was driving it, and her goal was no damage to the car, so she was not pushing hard. But still, I passed a GT2 on track!

Glen you need a go pro.
I thought we kept the windows down to help with point by passing.

No face visor and open face helmet, gloves?
Tried a chatter box to talk to your passengers?
Agree 160+, 8200 shift point.
Just wrist restraints, no door windows or window net.
My only weekend ever without a window net.

Small D rings on forearms of the suit replace the wrist pieces.
Wrist restraints are required in convertible cars at an AX or if you are missing a window net.
So I always bring them in the trailer so I won't need them.

I am way too cheap, and old to get into driving real race cars. I have helped a couple of friends that do club racing in PCA. Just the cost of a tow vehicle, and tires, motel rooms, track fees and all the rest can outstrip the cost of the race car itself after a few years.

I just go out out to have fun. I don't care one whit about going faster than other drivers or not getting passed.

I vintage race and basically that's my mantra too.
Just having fun, miles of smiles.

Thrilled to see a drag bug I built back in 87' is still being raced now in Italy.

One of my local buddies had a GT3 race car and loved running up front. He finally realized how much he was spending, and changed to a spec Miatia. He said he could buy a set of tires for the season for the cost of the wheels and rear tires on his GT3.

He said brakes last forever as he just turns and hardy uses the brakes. He still has to have a tow vehicle, trailer, and storage for it and the car and spares.

What sort of 1/4 mile times did you bug run?

Tickled Pink ran 11.79s at 109mph, which in the 80s was not bad.
Fun bracket racer, my only race car that ever won money, $400 at a Bakersfield race.
About covered the trip, meals and hotel back in the 80s.

Miata is a momentum car, takes a little more finesse or you loose your momentum for a lap.
I would not track a GT3 either, nannies, can't work on it and service at the dealer at $180 as hour.

Back in my 20s when I built it. Made it nice, won some car shows too.

My new tires for the 911 arrived yesterday.

The Michelin Pilot Sports were mounted on my wheels on July 3rd 2019. I made sure they drove over some cobblestones of Rt 66 that is a few miles from my house, and then they took me to Key West, FL, French Lick, IN, and the Poconos mountains in PA. Three trips to Eureka Springs, AR, and I did Hallet Motorspeedway twice, and 130 miles of Eagles Canyon race track, and 20 or so autocrosses.

A total of 16,000 miles. The fronts still have a decent amount of wear left, but the rears are pretty slim on tread. No way I want to drive in the rain on them like that.

Michelin does not have any tires like that in production right now, "supply line: issues. So I went with the Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires. I liked the Michelins, and would have bought them again, but they are not available. We are going to Eureka Springs again in November, and I want tread on the tires for any more road trips.

The trip to PA was on tires just above the legal tread wear limit for the rear. With the weight of the engine over the rear tires I was not too worried for highway driving. I slow to 60 MPH in more than a light mist anyway.

I looked up the price, and the Michelins from 2019 were almost the same exact price as the Continentals now. Amazing. Of course I remember the good ol day of getting a set of 15s for my 911 mounted and balanced for 400 bucks. More than double that for the 17s.

At Eagles canyon I was on a "taxi ride" in an instructor driven, BMW factory prepared BMw on race tires. It was hauling buns, and one of the guys in our club that must have money than he can spend, came up behind us in his GT3RS, with his son driving a GT3, and they passed us like we were pulling a trailer. His other son was driving a Ferrari 458 spyder. They all arrived in the 18 wheeler semi truck tow vehicle. He also has a collection on nice Porsches and Ferraris at his house.

Those GT3 were 1/2 a lap ahead of us in no time. Damn they are fast.

It was a wave past, so he told them to pass on the left and he pulled off line to the right.

To be fair, he did let off the throttle a little to make the pass faster. But they had caught us from a was back, and they left us in the dust. The Ferrari driver was a beginner, so he was in the slow group with my 911. With just 200 HP I was a real underdog. Everyone left me in the dust on the straights.

I had as much fun as is legal in a car with my clothes on.
