What kind of crazy things have you seen laying on the side of the road

Just thinking about VINMANS thread about the missing brake pad laying in the street, what weird things have you seen laying on the road?

Seen plenty of single shoes - where is the other shoe, i'm still waiting for it to drop.

garbage & dirty diapers don't count

I ran over a piece of a leaf spring once and it stuck in my rocker panel, how does that fall off a car.

saw a distributor cap with spark plug wires attached once, you think you would notice if that fall off.

Dead guy about 3 weeks ago. I asked my passenger if they saw the same. We weren't sure so when turned around after a little debating. When we got back to the spot, police were arriving.

not fair...i work on highways. most bizarre? i once found a styrofoam box full of bags of exotic tropical fish. most were dead. duffel bag with a dead javelina in it. cardboard box of really nasty porn.

nightwork..about to initiate a lane closure hwy 101....i found a Harley davidson motorcycle...keys in the ignition. CHP towed it. domestic dispute..they elected to finish the fight on foot.

Being the natural scrounge that I am....I have found many things over the years:

1) It was pouring rain, I was driving home from work. As I passed thru a busy intersection, I saw a tiny piece of green flopping in the dead center of a busy intersection. After another two blocks, I decided to return and see if that was a dollar. I stopped at the red light and there it was....a dollar bill flopping in the rain & wind - dead center of the intersection. When the light turned green, I pulled up to it, opened my door, and scooped it up....it was a $10

2) One day driving home, as I was getting onto the freeway, I spotted a shovel on the side of the road. I went back and scooped it up (no pun intended). It was like new.

3) Ok, not the side of the road, but...when I was in the old denver airport, I saw a bill flopping on an air conditioner vent. I immediately grabbed it and it was a $100. After eating lunch, I saw another bill flopping on the same vent...this time it was a $10

I guess that's one reason I'm always looking at the ground.

rear axle from something with a live axle. So it was the axle connected to the brake drum and rear tire. I bet that was a hair raising experience when it came out.

A month or two back, I ran over a 6-8' stepladder in the miata. The car in front of me braked pretty hard, I slowed a bit and at the last second, saw a ladder shoot out from under their car. It was in the middle of the lane and parallel to the flow of traffic. Fortunately I had the car running a bit higher than usual from when I carpooled with my buddy. I cringed as I ran over it. Fortunately I guess my car was just high enough. I heard a clunk and that was it. The previous weekend I had nearly lowered my car about 3/4". Thank goodness I hadn't.

I've got a nearly perfect traffic cone. I was on the feeder with no traffic for a mile in either direction, slowed to about 5-10 mph and snagged it as I drove by.

I also have one of these that I found on the side of the road. It's pretty beat up, but it's got several different signs that you can flip to.

My father found a 350# anvil on the side of the road.

A friend of our family deals in silver and gold. Got a flat tire and had to pull several bags of gold/silver coins, plates etc out of the trunk to get to the spare. Needless to say, someone found about $100k worth of silver and gold sitting on the side of the highway....

I drove through a slow junction of the 170 and 101 freeways in the San Fernando Valley one day and saw what looked like a 3-D cell Mag light on the side of the road. A few days later, I'm at the same location in bumper-to-bumper traffic and see it again. Pulled over and snagged it, perfect condition. Still have it in my car.

I hit a quart of oil in my WRX one time. I heard a loud noise, and looked in the rearview mirror to see a James Bond 007 smoke screen. Thought for sure I blew the motor.

I was driving when a mattress strapped to the top of a mini van flew off directly in front of me. I basically clenched and drove under it, the car not very far behind me ran directly over it. That had to suck.

Oh yeah, I also had a semi blow a tire right in front of me and a giant tire chunk ripped the front plate right off my 964 turbo. I couldn't stop, so I kept driving. The next day I went by the same spot and stopped, and there was my plate and frame, which was cool, since the way they mount to a 964 are stupid expensive. The plate had been run over a couple of times, but it was all good.

FAIL. The post askes "what kind of crazy things". That implies a better answer than "all kinds of stuff".

The best one that sticks out in my mind is the Trailer coupler that we found that had obviously had an attempt to JB weld it onto the trailer. It was laying on the shoulder next to some gouges in the pavement...

Kitten.

Stopped to pee driving back from a river trip, pulled over on a small cut out, there it was. My buddy and I walked about a 1/2 mile up and down the road to see if we find the mom or any others.

Kitten was about 6-8 weeks old.

I kept it. Great cat.

A large cloth bag like you see being loaded into an armoured car. I remember my brain engaging("That was a money bag you idiot!!!") By the time I got turned around (crossed the median and backtracked, and crossed again) and back to that spot the bag was GONE!
