Do your Cats smell?

I never wanted a cat in my house because of the smell and when I was around them my eyes would itch and my head would get all stuffed up. Two years ago we got two young cats, I said I would give it a try, well after two years I have never been bothered by them, they have absolutely no smell to them, I can stick my face right in their fir and not smell a thing. We do feed them a high quality food if there is such a thing for cats and the Wife says this is why. Anyhow is this normal? I remember going into peoples homes who had cats and notice the stink and then the eyes would start to itch. Is it just all in my head because they are mine?

Cats are very odor free...especially compared to dogs. Cats keep themselves scentless in order to not spook prey. They are solitary predators, unlike dogs which are pack animals.

Yep, cats tend to not have much, if any odor. If they've got a strong scent I'd have a vet check them out - could be a sign of illness. Try a bath first (I know, they'll hate it at first). They are exceptionally clean animals in general.

It's the concentrated saliva on their fur that you are alergic to. It becomes airbourne to some degree.

Never had a smelly cat.

The poop smell is easy to deal with.

Quality dry food.

It's the wet food that makes their poop smell.

Check with your vet, some cats may need some wet for digestive health.

My cat does not smell at all. When you smell cats at someone's home, it's usually do to bad owner habits of not cleaning the liter box (generally indoor cats). Since my cat goes out daily, there's no odor problem at all.

dry food, no bad breath.
Mine actually smell nice, after they've been a day on the field chasing critters.. They smell like the land when they get home, quite a good smell actually...

Mine often smells of engine oil as he likes checking out engine compartments.

Yep. That's my experience as well.

I have a cat, and his large litter box is changed weekly. No problems. We also get a "multi-cat" formula of litter event though we only have one cat--it really tends to dessicate the turds quickly.

Like Craig, I'm mildly allergic to cats.
My roommate brought a cat home last month. Without asking.
What a stupid little ****.
