Love the early Genesis, like the middle years, don't listen to the last stuff much, except Fading Lights, which has that feel....

Liked the pop stuff at the time, but it hasn't aged as well - or, to be more kind, it helped define the 1980's, and so seems old now. Still it is a happy, decent pop - like the early Beach Boys...hard to separate the music from the age it was made in, while some of their other music still resonates.

Gabriel is great, and I have all his albums; but I do like much of Phil's solo stuff too.

Band definitely went pop big time, but Trick of the Tail (first album after Peter left) is, IMHO, their best album overall. Has Peter's aggression and range with Phil's tightness and economy....

Still waiting for the Gabriel/Collins/Genesis reunion....

May 2008 - no carpal tunnel as far as I could hear

Emerson and Brian Auger (along with a 15 piece jazz band)

tools of the trade. Evidently Emerson lives around LA (Malibu?) and they carted this in for the gigs.

If you haven't seen it already, check out the Yes Years documentary. BTW, I think Chris Squire has the best live bass sound I've ever heard. I'm sure the lime green lab coat with purple sequins helps there.
Bruford sat in on some of the sets that made up Seconds Out, one of my all-time favorite live albums (Chester Thompson played most of the drums on that one). But they were still playing Gabriel's stuff at that time.

I have an Alan White autographed copy of Magnification. Here is your "six degrees of separation" for you - my wife got it from him when he stopped by her office one day. Seems his son was dating the daughter of one of the nurses on my wife's staff.

Good news on Emerson, Todd. I saw an Isle of Wright (their debut concert) documentary on Discovery or something a few years back where he discussed whatever it was that was wrong with his hand/wrists. He was pretty worried about it. I haven't seen those guys since they split up after their debacle "Love Beach" or whatever the hell it was. I have passed every time two out of three of them have toured. I would sure like to see them again, with the proper "P".
