of course 'the greater good' doesn't mean 'perfect good'. it means what it says.
Fk that.

It shouldn't be all that had to disable cell phones automatically if their internal GPS indicates they are travelling faster than a given speed. Yeah, it might be "inconvenient" for a passenger in a car, or on a bus, or train, or whatever. I have no sympathy for that. I made it over 40 years without one of those infernal devices. That, and I don't want to hear folks yammering on them while on public translportation, either. In a private car, if it's really important, get the driver to pull over. Most folks rolling down the road and talking on a cell are doing so recreationally anyway.

What ever happened to freakin common sense while driving

I think the penalties for driving while texting should be similar to a DWI.

The problem with applying a penalty to it is that most people think it's only illegal if they get caught. The technology exists to eliminate the problem...why not use it?

I worked in the early days of the cell phone industry. I honestly don't think any of us would have predicted how ubiquitous these damn things would become. I agree, they are a blessing and a curse. I love having one phone number but not the expectation I can be reached 24*7. Texting and mobile internet were but a glimmer in the eyes of some smart engineer in the early 90's. I hate seeing people talking and/or texting while driving. I was really more stunned than pissed the day the lady almost merged into me on my bike with a Starbucks cup in one hand and her cell phone in the other.

I have a cell phone and a Blackberry, but am only available while working and when I feel like being available. I have never viewed a ringing phone as a call to action. My cell phone is for my convenience only, not for others.

I think when teens start driving they should ride along on a shift in an ambulance because a dead body is a dead body but if they see an automobile accident (very common) with major injuries they actually put it together that it could happen to them and i think it would hit closer to home.

DC Metro had a wreck recently. Bad one and i believe a cell phone may have been involved. noticed they banned cell phones for drivers.

our local highschool puts a wrecked car in front of the school and a coffin with a mirror in it in the school. the girls would just use the mirror for hair makeup etc.

I just came from a PR biz networking event, sat with a bunch of young girls and they were discussing this ad. I rode my bike there and was wearing riding pants, boots and a dress shirt. The girl next to me said, "I'm like a total texter when I drive. I'm always in my car and with my Blackberry." I was trying to think of a way to tell her she belonged in snuff porn, when she continued and said that commercial had scared her straight. Then I switched gears and gingerly said, "As someone who rides and sees texters putting others in danger on a daily basis, thank you."
