The US companies are buying more and more EU subsidized Airbus aircraft.
This past year the military was planning to replace Boeings with Busses. On the other hand, China has been experiencing double digit growth in the commercial aviation sector. They project to add 42 new airports and 500 commercial aircraft by the end of 2010. And they have a vested interest in buying American build aircraft. It makes sense for Boeing to go where they can best serve their customers.

Setting aside their DoD business, I would think the US govt would have a hard time letting a company like Boeing get away with moving their operation off shore...the balance of trade implications must be enormous. |
