Boeing moving... to CHINA? Just read.

"Boeing (BA) CEO Jim McNerney is eager to move the company to China. Whether moving Boeing to China means shifting its headquarters from Chicago to Beijing is up in the air. But Boeing already has $600 million in supplier partnerships with China -- such as a deal with Shenyang Aircraft Corporation to build an assembly for the 787's vertical fin. And Stan Sorscher, who spent 20 years at Boeing before taking a post at the Society of Professional Engineers in Aerospace (SPEEA) in 2000, told me that McNerney is hooked on the idea of shifting Boeing to China."

Boeing has had huge problems since Mulally left. The 787 Dreamliner is WAAAAY behind schedule.

McNerney was having the suppliers do their own engineering, not Boeing. As a partial result the ECS, electrical and wing to fuselage connections have huge problems. Some have said they need to start over with the ECS system, it's DOA. The 787 is being built in pieces all over the world then assembled in various other places.

Now, he's promoting moving the company to China, it seems.

Anyone know? True? Rumor? Partly true?

Makes sense. The Chinese will own everything pretty quickly at this rate.

Just another sign that this country has been sold down the river.

On a recent supplies run into town, we looked at every non-food item that was on our list. 31 items. 3 did NOT say 'Made in China'. We were NOT in WalMart.

Mayor Daley will have a hissy fit, even though Boeing has very little presence here.

I found and posted this a few weeks ago.

See the pdf link for concept images.

Boeing, Fincantieri Team for U.S. Hovercraft Offer
http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=407...c=AME&s=SEA

I found this by doing a search for "Boeing Hovercraft" after re-reading the Hovernews Nov/Dec 2008 article by Gerald W. Crisman where in 1960 Boeing had no interest in hovercraft.

I guess some things do change if given enough time.

Yup. No way. Now moving the fabrication/assembly of certain non-ITAR components to China is very possible. You're going to see more of this, as building stuff in China is seen as one major way to make inroads into selling stuff in China. There is a large potential market for airplanes in China after the infrastructure is developed.

Disagree...The American peoples apathy for the last 40 years has allowed the USA to be sold off, piece by piece. We have allowed our government to run the tab up to maintain a false sense of prosperity. We feel or have felt we are a rich nation and can afford it all, we no longer have to strive to be competitive as a naiton. We have become a self indulgent nation of X Box players and TV watchers dedicated to following fashion.

One thing I wish our Liberals would do is listen to BO critically. He continues to state that America is a rich nation and that it is a shame that we can not provide HC for everybody. This means he is still of the mind set that we can afford it all cause we are rich. Contrast that to the way wealth is really accumulated, and a good primer for that mind set is laid out in the book "the Millionaire Next Door." If one does not follow the principles that are laid out in the book one does not become rich nor stay rich.

Does anyone remember my recent post about history biting the a$$ of anyone forgetting history? I think that one was in the Afghan post... anyway.

Anyone remember Douglas 'licensing' the Chinese to build MD80's in Mainland China? Same EXACT stated reasoning. Inroads, all the same bull. They built 50ish of them. They were NEVER allowed out of domestic China. Build quality was unbelieveable. The very first crash was in the very first week. An entire window and it's supporting assembly 'detached' from the airframe, and went thru an engine. Plane crashed, all killed. Plane had 46 hours total time. Every one of those airframes were returned to the enviornment in fashion or another in 2 years. Made for some GREAT video moments. I have seen several. I would not walk under them at rest on the ramp.

Yeah, I would love to see a Chinese-built Boeing. Have no doubt one would show up at Harbor Freight in a month or so.

Please re-read my last sentences more carefully before you jump.

I am asking if anyone knows anything about it, I'm not stating it as a fact.

Here's where I saw it.

As taxes and the regulatory enviroment increases in the USA to remain profitable and competitive aka as staying in business. more and more American mfg will relocate offshore.

Corporations have NO LOYALTY to a naiton or a people. For their survival they will go to wherever it is that they can operate profitably. The only loyalty a corporation has is to its share holders.

You all would be surprised to hear that this little tidbit came from a Chilean Marxist Prof. who 35 years ago postulated on Multi-national corporations and their affect on the nation state.

I heard of those license built planes, but, as we speak, a Chinese company IS building significant parts of the 787.

Another thought... The Bay Bridge in San Fran. The eastern 'replacement' span (for the damaged by earthquake section) is nearing completion. Most of it is prestressed concrete and cassion cast pillars.

The 'transition section', and some of the approaches are being built in Mainland China and shipped here for 'assembly'.... the project is months late, several billion over budget and now, even prior to 'assembly' are suffering cracked welds. Steel is failing quality control checks for content. Of course, contract engineers have flown to China at great expense to personally oversee welding and fabrication, but are complaining of constant sickness from food poisoning, haha.

Another cheap Chinese insult to this country. All sanctioned by our government.

So where is our next gen air to air refueling tanker coming from?

It's up in the air, but it awarded to (then put out for re-bid) Grumman for an AIRBUS tanker.

It's in limbo now, but it had been awarded to an AIRBUS plane. For the USAF.

And, of course, the Coast Guard has used French copters for years.
