Another Craigslist Rant...

I know CL is free to I take it with a grain of salt but the quirkiness of people fascinates me.

So I do a lot of advertising on craigslist when we get in cheap trade ins. I have a HTML template that I use to post these trades. I also put a link that leads to our newer cars like BMW, Lexus, Mercedes. About once a week I get an email tirade that goes like this "I was searching for a BMW 550 and I find this POS Honda. Does this look like a BMW? I dont have time for this schit. FU!"

I've had them from men, women, and even one from a large franchise car dealer. If they are upset about the addition search because it wastes their time then why do they take to send an email. Serenity NOW!

Frankly, I thought this was going to be a Craigslist rant.

Turns out this is a rant against Craigslist users.

Terry; this is several minutes of my life that I am not going to get back. I would think that in your business the idea of a 'bait and switch' would be personally abhorrent.

I am shocked. Shocked that you would stoop so low with your PP bretheren.

Shame, shame.

I don't know if I'd send you an email, but I would be one of those people who would be pissed. I hate when I do a search for "Boxster" and I get gold chandeliers, refrigerators and who knows what other crap in the result, because of all the keyword searches you guys hide in your template. Definitely irritates the ***** out of me...

So Terry, is this thread quirky enough yet?

BTW, this was an easy target.

Used car dealer. Craigslist. Honda.

I hope you have a sense of humor, and that whatever I am driving in your part of Florida never blows up, and I need your help.

I avoid this tactic by searching only titles.

+100000

Some CL sellers have rendered the body text search useless by including irrelevant keywords. If it were my system I'd ban people who did that.

If it's one or two like that, I ignore it, but if I'm searching something like Porsche, I I get 18 links from the same dealer that actually doesn't even have a Porsche on the lot, I'll flag them all.

By far the worst keyword I saw was the Nissan dealer selling a GT-R and trashing Porsche in the CL ad.

I don't buy from people like that based on general principle. I don't care how good the "deal" is. Same goes for any high-pressure, pushy sales tactic. I refuse to reinforce the behavior. Long-term, that's the only thing that will stop it and make it go away - to make it ineffective.
