The new Jay Leno Show
Watched. I think they lost some of their best writers, because most of it wasn't that funny.
The Bush mountain bike joke was good, and most of the "Headlines" were pretty good. Keyne West is a disposable-douche

Poor guy used to be funny. Then they plugged him into Leno's show and expected him to act like Leno. Fail.

I enjoyed the show. I thought the Car Wash bit was hilarious. Kanye was unwatchable but there's nothing on in that time slot so I'll probably watch it. Until now I don't even venture down to ABC, NBC, or CBS to see what's on.

So was Kanya booked before the MTV moment?
Was the MTV moment staged to get ratings for the new Leno show? |

No way. The guy was a deer in headlights and Jay had to basically drag the info out of him. Jay was actually surprised he didn't cancel, and mentioned it. The "What would your mother think of this?" just about killed him. He was ashamed, no doubt. His responses were very self centered and did not seem sincere.

Smart of NBC to give people an early-bird special. --costs less too.

This way, the lights now go out after the local news...I have a feeling, if things don't improve, our 9PM hour may go back to being the "off" time.

Lemo is barely tolerable, Conan is just plain stupid, Jimmy and Letterman are decent sometimes - Craig Furguson is prolly the funniest but on way too late.
I don't see the Lemo show lasting a second season even though the network will force feed it...

There was an interesting online article in a financial paper yesterday, early (before the KW thang made the morning gag and puke fluffer 'news' shows in NYC) about the 'economics' for the new show, how the number of writers (still all guild members) had gone down significantly. And that the show was going to Jay's 'garage format', rather than the usual talk show desk format. All much much cheaper to produce and distribute. About how the demographics changing because of the time slot, the pricier ad rates for the 'younger' demographic made the target audience drive the descision to do the seemingly 'unusual' changes to his successful previous show format.
Later the article was 'apended' to discuss the possibility that the KW appearance was going to be 'pushed' if need be to make sure he actually showed, but played the 'he's only going to sing' line. Again to attract the younger demographic. The appendage even 'suggested' that the KW thang on MTV and it's sister networks was staged for ratings (something MTV is famous for). Was a really interesting read. Now contrast that with the Jay Leno that all of us SoCal guys know. The 'regular guy' that shows up on Mulhulland with whatever he 'brought' that sunny Sunday morning. He walks into his garage and the farthest he has planned ahead is the size of the coffee cup, and whether he needs to run a comb thru his hair if he is going to drive something convertible. Amazing. |

Leno is just going after the low hanging fruit. Have you seen the crap in that timeslot. His competition is hardly that.

Missed it/forgot about it. And ads for his show have been plastered on nearly every bus stop in L.A.
Meh! I watched bike racing on Universal. Didn't even see the Raiders game.

I recorded the show but haven't seen it yet. Did read the morning reviews - NG.
I thought Leno was going to do a nightly monologue, then provide opportunities for young, new comedy talent ala Carson's version of the Tonight show. And a return to more varied music genres would be a successful throwback/option instead of the usual bubblegum/grunge bands that usually appear (not that there's anything wrong with bubblegum or grunge music). The music on the old Leno show was my criticism. Music director, Kevin Eubanks and a formidable jazz guitarist in his own right - No jazz heard whenever I tuned in. That way, his staff wouldn't be so hard pressed to crank out quality material every day. If this keeps up, there will come a day (maybe already) when the internet takes over the wide screen TV.
