Drought?
Here in Oklahoma it has been raining pretty much non stop for two weeks. I have not been able to mow the yard since the 1st of the month. We may well have another record wet year. No one is really complaining. It sure beats a drought.
My real question is about some of the areas that were in the news last year. Typical of the media they love to focus on bad news of drought but never mention the recovery. We saw constant reports about the water shortage in Atlanta. Has Lake Lanier in GA filled back up? When I was in Charlotte in 2008 the water restrictions were severe. How is the drought in that area? Has the recent rains helped the Austin area? Any first hand reports from locals would be appreciated.

The media's job is to scare the krap out of you. So, not on their agenda to report good news or question "global warming" fanatics.

In NorCal, we had a very late comparably wet spring. The usual summer thunderstorms have been absent (thankfully no dry lightning), and I noticed the NOAA press release that a mild 'El Nino' offshore oceanic water temp is in progress. That means a dry NorCal, and a slightly wetter SoCal.
We shall see. |

Same in no. Arkansas, another three inches yesterday. It has to be a record for the wettest summer, if not the whole year. Lawns typically start browning by mid-June, this year you mow weekly and the grass is greener than early May.

drought
i live in one of the red areas...2008 map...in the upstate of south carolina. good rains in the spring reduced us to moderate drought and it was announced that the severe drought was over. lake hartwell gained several feet to within 3-5 feet of full pool. then summer came and it has been very dry, and a drought was once again declared. however the past couple of weeks we have had rain, maybe 3 to 5 total inches in some areas. i do not know how much if any that hartwell has recovered in that time but i expect quite a bit. hooray for the rain!!

I live in Austin, Tx and we still have an extreme drought situation here. Lake Travis, our main water resevoir is 35 feet below normal level for this time of year. Some rain in sight, but we need a lot to recover now. Two years of low rainfall, and too many new users...

We're about 8 inches above normal for the year here in East TN. We're supposed to get an additional 1-2 inches today.

At least rain runs off and you don't have to shovel the stuff.

The last 12 months in the Corpus Christi / South TX area have been the driest, hottest in the 125 years of weather records. Our rainfall for the past 12 months starting last October:
0.38 1.22 0.07 0.14 0.14 0.99 0.04 1.66 0.00 0.06 1.04 5.86 in. --- --- --- We have been in the D4 drought for a year now. The nearly 6 in. so far in Sept. didn't even make a dent in what we need. It didn't even green up the grass because the grass is all dead... ![]()

They are predicting heavy thunderstorms for this evening. It looks like Tulsa is getting hammered right now.
I finally got my yard mowed yesterday.

Since yesterday we have had about 5-inches or so in Central Alabama... more in some areas (6-7-inches) within the region. Flooding all over the place.
It has rained everyday here (or there) for the past two frickin' weeks! and now we're in a pattern where it's raining everywhere it seems. The P-Car sits in the basement awaiting dry weather... maybe by the time we normally get ice I can plan on driving it again.

Why do you have a pool? I know my uncle that lives at Catoosa was still swimming about Aug 20.

Horrible drought in the San Antonio area. The rain last week was the first I've personally seen since moving here over a year ago. People think everything will be better but things are far from it.
