Our SRX had one of the systems that showed pressure per tire. In the winter it was common for at least one sensor to drop offline, especially if packed with snow. It would also occasionally alert for low pressure when the tires had 32 psi. Nice technology when it works.

Wifes Mini Cooper S has it. PITA. I hear it's troublesome on the LR3's also (lets all the air out of the tires at night, must be some type of anti-theft device) and on the Impalas we have at work, it goes off all the time for no reason at all (all 4 within 3 psi).
That said, if it saves lives...

it was my spare. 7 psi low. kevin, seriously? my truck has that black steel wheel. pretty much solid throughout. no way i am reaching through it. dropping the wheel isnt as intuitive as my work GM truck. using that jack-hook as a "flat blade screwdriver head" in that stupid slotted nut thing to lower the tire was foolishness. i needed my laserbeam flashlight to do it. my wife would need to call AAA if she got a flat. i should make her practice the move. i officially LIKE TPMS's. i would have never checked my spare.

I think they became a requirement after the solid rear axle Ford Explorer. They would lose tire pressure, get unstable and roll over.

Same experience here... it's the only system on my wife's 08 Cooper S that has caused any issue whatsoever. We've had the sensor replaced twice, fortunately under warranty.

We have it in our Kia minivan. I never drive the car, so I love the feature, since my wife will let me know if the light comes on. It usually comes on around 25 PSI, I wish it came on around 30, so I'd feel a little better about her driving on it w/ only being 4 - 5 lbs low on pressure vs 9 - 10.
