They'll be put on "paid administrative leave" pending an investigation.

The thin blue line knows no bounds. Not even murder.

All involved should get the death penalty.

The victim should be awarded $1,000,000,000.00 in punitive damages.

Guns don't kill people, but some cops I wonder about...

I wonder about some writers as well: "...drove the squad car down the street with Tony lying on top, writing in pain."

writhing, I think, is the correct word. Plus, the Anthony becomes "Tony" thing...

Kurt, I am not intentionally bashing LE, and I know what can happen during the heat of the moment.

What bothers me is the instant attempt to eradicate blame from themselves.

I think I read something about this last week in the AZ Republic, which is not as well written as a high school newspaper and often uses AP stories even on Phoenix events to copy verbatim because they're so horrible and understaffed. I don't recall reading anything about the cops trying to cover anything up. I'm sure this story will take off soon though.

I sense an enormous pay-day in the victims' future. Wow, that really sucks.

Really? I sense Paid administrative leave and the Sheriff Joe saying:

"After an investigation we have concluded that the officers acted appropriately given the situation even though mistakes were made blah blah frkickin blah."

Awful.

English is my second language, and man it was difficult reading that article. I thought it was just me, but I'm glad someone notice how poorly writhen it is!

But yes...that's a big payday for the homeowner. I sure hope those clowns are never given a gun in the name of public protection again.

They need to be charged with attempted murder and sent away for a long time. That was an execution not an attempt to stop a home invasion. Good thing I would not be on a jury trying this case. No mercy for them, NONE.

Victim should be awarded an obscene amount of money from the city and from both officers to make it painful for the this to happen again.

The home owner would have been better off shooting the intruder. Probably would have faced no charges after such a violent entry of the intruder.

I am not surprised the cops are covering for one another. This is nothing new, but nowadays modern gadgets help uncover the black sheep.

I can't help but think that there is more to this story (beyond the poorly written linked article). Not to say that the cops didn't massively screw up, but I have my doubts about all the "facts" in the story.

terrible story as written, but I have to admit I burst out laughing when I read:

Quote:
The 911 tape continued to record what happened even after Officer Lilly unloaded his weapon into Tony, including Officer Lilly's post-shooting, one-word 'assessment': 'Fu(k.'

The cop is clearly a total fu(k-up. Six hits, at inside-the-house range, and the guy lives? How in the hell is he even qualified to carry a weapon?

So you're ready to believe every word of a poorly written article in "Courthouse News Service" (?!?) with no other corroborating information?

Well, I suppose lawyers never lie, so probably a safe bet...
