Its a 64 356C, ad says surface rust...car appears to be complete. And for how much?

It certainly has surface rust. Right around each rust perforation hole. A better question is, how much metal is left holding the front and rear halves together?

That looks like a lot of car compared to what some folks have "restored".

Is this an auction? I would take a closer look at the 914 further down the line.

That is perfectly do-able. We (Porsche owners collectively) have to start looking at ourselves as custodians of these old beauties before there are none left. If my kids weren't taking up so much of time I would gladly take the time to restore something like that.

It is restorable, but for what you would pay for the restoration you could just buy a 356 someone else has already restored. I have been watching the 356 market for years and in 2008 they stopped their upward climb in price and have been holding steady.

Someone will buy it and restore it. If I had the skills, tools, and resources to do it, I would.

That's a really soggy car. Unless garden variety 356 coupes became million dollar cars while I wasn't looking, it would be cheaper to buy a mint/dry car for current market value and enjoy it. Even restoring dry cars is a ridiculous amount of time/$$/energy if done right. I can't imagine welding new chunks onto a soggy lunch pail like that. To each their own, I guess...

Just open up those 'lightening holes' and rattle-can it.

Hollywood will buy it for $10,000, Bondo-it, shoot a coat of paint on it, and use it as the sacrifice car in some movie in place of the protagonist's cherry 356... it'll go off a cliff somewhere.

If you absolutely wanted to build one maybe. It looks pretty straight other than the rust. I'd get under it though...

I purposfully showed the bad side..the rest does not look like swiss cheese.
I have no real way of looking at the car unless I want to take a LOOOOONG Drive... The 914 is a 74...

I want one in the future, but not to restore like most do... I have more evil intentions.
Did anyone see last month's Excellence? That 930 powered 356 brought forth primeval desires.
