Happy Birthday Internet
40 yrs. old today.
In the next 4 years it is expected to grow 400%. Let's hope that the politicians keep their grubby hands off. . "Your life will never be the same.", a client told me back in June '01. I was late for the WWW train...came online in Aug. '01.

First message was "LO"... and the system crashed after that.
So much for dial up. We sure have come a long way since that time.

Somethings never change.
![]() It's funny, I remember using Bit-nic, back in the mid 80's, and being able to send text messages between NY and Texas, and then, e-mail. Amazing. I don't think anyone had a clue where this would go.

I remember when I was a kid back in the early 80s, staying up late with my dad to call Compuserve on our 2400 bit modem on our Commodore 64. Remember when long distance calls were cheaper after 11pm?

Remember when you had to dial an access code to get to Sprint or the other long distance companies?

I remember getting on line at 300 baud with my manual dial modem. CompuServe at 300 baud is slow enough to read the text as it came down. There were no graphics at all. I spent several hours looking around. After a few days I decided to order a pair of jeans on-line. Then I got my first month bill. They charged by the minute! As I remember the bill was something like $25.00 for just that one month. I canceled my account that day. I stuck to Fido-Net for the next few years. Only you fellow geezer geeks will remember Fido net. I learned about my first CD ROM from Fido Net. Sometime in the late 80s I got back online at 14,000 BPS. A few months later I bought a 38.8 modem for over a hundred dollars. It is amazing how much the internet has changed my career and life.
