back up camera question.

I am searching and found there are many types: IMOS or CMOS, CMD, CDL, ABC, XYZ, etc. What is the different and what are you guys getting?

I have a factory one and never use it. Not sure why, just don't ever glance at it since I am looking thru all the mirrors.

yeah, like that but I am looking for more features one and from ebay, I see many choices with different types as I list above. Which is which? and Which is better/worse? I am fed.

Randy, I want it for my new minivan. Don't want to run over someone/something.

I know that CMOS refers the type of electronic image sensor inside the camera. These make a HUGE difference in high-end photography, but not in a backup camera. As long as it has a high enough resolution to make out the image, you probably could care less about the kind of image sensor.

The only case that I can see where the image sensor might matter is if it is infrared, in which case you might be able to see a night with it.

As for other features, I'm not so familiar, so let us know what kind of features you have questions about.

alright, that's it. After a bunch more search, I see the CMOS is mostly on the night vision one.
Thanks Legion.

Are you home yet bell ??

I just bought a Garmin Nuvi 5000. It has a large, clear display; but i bought it mainly because it has a 'video-in' port for a backup camera.

It will be installed in my Dodge dually one ton. ( a Smart car could hide sideways behind me!)

Have one in my Ford f150 work truck and have found it handy when hooking up to a trailer or parking in a tight spot.

Any recommendations for a camera anyone ??
( would prefer hard wired to wireless)

I installed one in my van and see a disavantage of the combination of navigator and back up camera. Usually, the unit is done booting up after I already drove 1/2 mile away, hoho. When I really need the camera, I have to wait for a long time to it to boot and got ready for me to see my rear view. This is the reason why I am reluctant to put it into my 911. I know that the stand alone back up camera won't take long to turn on.
PS: several days after I had my back up camera installed, I backed my van into a giant concrete pole and messed the rear end . This is the first time even in my life.

CCD Chip produces the highest quality/ high resolution image. CMOS technology is what you generally find at value price points (< $75 units). Chinese made crap IMO.

My backup camera thread posted a couple of years ago:

Check out the new Apline backup camera. They make a nice lookig license plate frame w/camera mount and built in LED plate light. This would allow me to mount the camera a little higher than where I have it now. Hmmmm?

OK moved the Pioneer camera to the SUV and installed the Alpine on the 911 today.
