snow in houston? wtf?!?

Was supposed to be driving to Hattiesburg, MS right about now. Instead I'm sitting in a hotel room in Houston. Almost all flights cancelled due to snow. Evidently they ran out of deicing fluid at the airport. I guess that one gallon jug they ordered wasn't quite enough

On the plus side, Southwest actually handled things well. Had a long wait in line at the airport but got booked on an am flight tomorrow to New Orleans and a very cheap rate at the Hilton. Evidently Southwest reserved almost the whole hotel as soon as they knew there were going to be cancelations.

Had to pay for the wireless though...bastards.

It was sunny and in the 60s here today in New England. No joke.

Yeah, I live 15 min from the airport, but was busy tonight, my daughter started the Physicians Assistant program this semester and had her "White Coat" ceremony tonight in Galveston.

46 people in the PA program, 3 are guys, and at least a third of the girls were pretty hot with most of them being attractive. Those three guys are much smarter than most of us.

Possibility of snow in Baton Rouge tomorrow. It's raining really good here right now and the temp is dropping. The entire state will probably shut down if we get enough to stick. Hopefully, the flights into MSY will be okay.

Here's what we woke up to almost exactly a year ago here:

That type of weather really throws the program off down in that region. I remember being down in Florida during a light freeze.

I was at DFW during an ice storm it was like bumper cars on the road. One of the wildest things I have ever seen. People not even remotely aware of the effects of the ice on the road surface.

If it's slick I would not be on the road with those folks.

It's 10F here right now which is balmy. We could see -10, -15 Sunday night.

at -30F below things slow down here. I have had family from Arizona start freaking at 0 F and fly home like the end of the world was coming.

Be safe

I hope we've reached the minimum temp for the year...

This didn't do anything to help the pool temp. I had the pool open about 4 weeks ago. The water temp before heating was 69-70 degrees. Brought it up to 80 for a weekend. It was still 71-72 before thanks giving. Now it is 51 degrees. Brrrrrr. Pool is closed for the winter

As luck would have it, fellow Pelican Don Plumley was stranded here as well at the next hotel down the road, so he came down to the Hilton for a beer. Go figure that you end up going haflway across the country and run into someone.

There is a Papadeux in the airport here, but I rushed out last night to make sure I got a hotel room. Now on standby for a 9:15 flight, booked on 10:25 one. In the grand scheme of things not a bad delay, though bridges around the airport are blocked off right now due to ice. Glad I'm not driving...

I had plans last night, and more tonight, but if y'all (you guys) are still around mid-day, I can pick you up for lunch. Don has my number.
