That puzzled me as well, hugh. I've sprung $10 for their rule book to figure out the classes. I notice many of those records are fairly old but still in the era of modern 500's...like the Kawasaki ninja's, Honda CBF's etc. I'll let ya know. I think they have a historic class as well:

saw a few pre-war bikes on their site. I think the "V" on that bike is for "vintage"

Actually, I think it could. (Actually, I have no idea). It's an ex-factory racer. When I get it re-ringed, I'll take it somewhere with my GPS and find out. 100 MPH on a almost 80 year old bike? I better wear my helmet. Safety First!

Dueller, saw your post just after I uploaded. Yeah, I had a friend in HS in 1970 that had a Kawasaki Mach 3 (500cc) that I saw turn well over 100 mph in the 1/4 mile and it was stock (I think).

I'll paint the tin and frame of any cycle for the project. Probably can even donate the paint. Won't be anything special but will be painted!

Oh my, sid....we may have another winner:

For $300 I'm tempted to wire you the money today.

I've thought about one of my bikes...a great canyon carver but above 130 mph it gets a little intense with only a 52" wheelbase. I think it will pull about 140 in the measured mile. Sid, I like you too much to ask you to ride it.

The question is "Would it go easy on you?"

Speaking of that...how tall are you and what do you weigh?

My only problem with a 944 or 924 is that the size of the engine may throw us into the 135 or more zone... and that car wont do 135 in the mile without a LOT of work...

Slam it to the ground... put a blower and some water injection on it... there was a guy on the 924/944/ board doing that a few years back.

Yes I'm just trying to move my project car out of the garage

Have not studied this yet, but I am doubting that being "competitive" in ANY of the classes will require some serious homework and a thorough understanding of the rules. I highly doubt for example that a 35 year old aircooled 2-stroke MX bike motor will be competitive in any legal configuration as it would no doubt then be competing against "modern" liquid cooled 2 strokes that will make way more power than their old aircooled cousins. On top of that, I would assume the winning entries have some serious porting/ignition work by a proven mod shop.

While it might be "fun" to cob some monstrosity together and attempt to enter it, it will have little chance of being competitive unless lots of money and R&D takes place.

That said...... I could probably help with fabbing some components if there is a need.

I'd come down and run the Carrera. A project bike sounds cool also.
Or for the first time just have a Pelican Party, find out what it's all about and plan for another time.

WE HAVE A RACE ENGINEER/FABRICATOR!!!!!!

Ah Tim, Tim, Tim...this is where I put my modest skills and miniscule talents to work for Team Pelican RAT (Record Assault Team). You view the task in reverse: You want to have the machine and analyze and R&D what it will take to be competitive for its class. I, as team shifty attorney, plan to thoroughly scrutinize the rules, parse the regulations, challenge the scrutineers/stewards and existing records and find some obscure class that either has an old record OR BETTER YET, no record ever attempted!!!! Then I will scour craigslists and backyards til I find the appropriate vehicle. VICTORY and a RECORD will be ours!!!! (No matter how slow we are.)

Seriously, it might be fun to go for one of the old small bore classes...I think Modified 100cc 4 stroke might be in grasp. IIRC there aresome in the 58-70 mph range. Or even one of the 50cc classes. Will take a slight rider tho. A local buddy thinks he can come close to the 400cc records for 2 strokes (FZR 400 RR bike). We've clocked him at 135+ at the end of the 3/4 mile straight at MMP but it does have about a 40 mph entrance. He's tentatively in.

In any event it might be fun to enter some of our street cars...not so much for setting an ECTA record but bragging rights in PPOT. An excuse for a road trip Pelican gathering...maybe a detour thru some of the mountain twisties in the area.

That is what I think would be fun also. We can even have Pelican classes... 2.7, 3.0, 3.2, 3.6 if needed. Or by model years...

I'm tempted to bring my Buell S1W. It will come nowhere near the record for its class, at least not with me riding it It is much modded and I have run an 11.3 1/4 mile @119 mph (I'm no drag racer) as well as had it up to 135-ish...but both were sphincter tightening experiences.
