Tb = internal body temperature

Tlc = T at which metabolic rate has to increase to keep the body warm

I've never done that either & would love too.. But I guess that I would have to get some long pants & socks....

Bruce, that is just wrong man, but I bet it is sweet in the summertime.

Something to that tempering thing Robert.

I turned into a straight up p*ssy about cold after living in Tejas for a decade. It was rarely all that cold there. Got so the heat did not bother me a bit, even hot and wet. I recall sitting on my parent's patio, having a beer with my wife's parents, talking about how fast those sticks my Dad brought back from Nebraska in his golf bag turned into cherry trees. My father-in-law had just been talking about how pleasant it was, temperature wise, compared to Cut'n'Shoot, TX. Warm, but comfortable for August, it was 98* with pretty low humidity, compared to the high 90s humidity you get on the gulf coast. Right after he said that, my Dad sticks his head out, trying to get us to "come in out of the heat."

It was actually pretty funny at the time

Brfore acquiring a handicap I was an all season man. Surfing summers, cross country skiiing and backpacking winter and fall. Cold weather activity is definitly about conditioning, equipment and attitude.

I've backpacked as low as -30F in the Adirondacks many times. It is stunningly beautiful.

Now, old and decrepit I barely get out to do a little snow shoeing but make the most of it when I can.. I admit that I must often hide from strong winds. Those just cut right thru me.

It's completely different when you're in an environment that gradually changes temps throughout the seasons than when you're in an environment that's warm most of the time with occasional fits of sort of cold.

Here in Houston, when it's in the 60s and 70s throughout most of the winter (for the last several years), and then you get a day in the 30s, it's horrible. This winter is the coldest that we've seen in several years. I've already seen temps much colder than I've seen in years and it's not the coldest part of the winter yet.

When I lived in northern Japan, the weather gradually changed from warm to cool to cold to cool and back to warm. You could go outside in light cloths or even short sleeves in Japan with 3' of snow on the ground and the sun out and feel pretty good. We'd usually get the first snow of the year around Halloween and have snow on the ground until April. It didn't seem as cold there as it does here when the temps dip into the 30s.
