I also purchased a MacBook Pro. I'm no puter geek at all. But really like the clarity and ease of use. I can't find how to re-arrange pictures once you make an 'event' out of them.

virus? lolo, worse I got was an extension that when I hit the space bar it would beep and this was a joke and back in ??? 1994. Haven't bothered worrying since then.
Closed source code? Tight about products -- yes Code -- not really. OS is available as Open Source (Darwin/ and the original code is based on BSD) only the top GUI is closed. Steve J -- used friend to make his empire Bill G -- used his Dad (or was it Dad's Lawyer, or is it that his Dad is lawyer???) US $150 million -- saved Apple??? probably not, M$ made out better than Apple. Get the courts off their backs for a bit, sell more copies of Office at retail not OEM, and get lot's of older Apple OS code that will later stabilize some sections of XP. Did you know that XP has many comments that contain "FU" in it ![]() Back when OSX was introduced everybody laughed at the kool-aid ... lolo, who's doing the kool-aid big time now? ![]() Anyway, Windoze vs OSX is more of a personality / usage preference which you'll notice soon enough. Apple Hardware quality has dropped, days of driving over your notebook and still use it are gone ![]() If you don't have the cash but some time ... you can still run OSX on most modern wintel machines. You just need to get the right downloads ![]() Amount of software? Apple wins! The catch is that you run windows in vm mode or from a different boot partition. So even if you don't like OSX you still can just install XP/7 over it (sorry Vista is crap!) So XP or 7 ![]()

Well, here's an update on the great XP to OS transition in the world of Normy:
-My software situation has been pretty easy. I cant put photoshop on this new MAC, but it came with software about the equivalent. I've posted one picture on the Pelican so far with this computer after I modified it, and it is about the same. Last year I mounted a dash-cam in my 928, and about the time I bought this computer....it failed. I bought a new one, much more expensive...and it didn't work. I sent it back, but in the process I realized that the cam didn't come with software that is MAC compatible. Now that I am "gay", I guess I have to get used to it. My Sony Vaio K35 [NO, I won't sell it!], a laptop that can probably be used as a patio block due to its 8 pound weight and 3 pound BRICK, was rehabilitated by a shop, and still works. That means that I can download the videos on the Vaio and then send them via my home wifi to the the MAC. I really don't use much software. I have an airline pilot bidding program that was designed for MAC to begin with, and adapted to the Windows operating system. I emailed the owner of this software, and he sent me a link: suddenly the software appeared on my computer. I couldn't believe it! Click, and there it is. No fuss, no picking "destination" folders- it just installed itself and the computer kept on going! -This thing is the fastest computer I have ever used. My Vaio took about 5-10 seconds to open South Florida - Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade breaking news, sports, weather, traffic, hurricane coverage, restaurants, jobs, real estate, classifieds and consumer help - South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com, when I climbed out of bed and asked it to open this website. This MAC? One or TWO seconds max! It is almost instantaneous! Well, the old Vaio, my friend for 5.5 years? It was finally screwed up by a partially or incorrectly installed PATCH from AVG virus software. I'm still working this out with this group. Basically, what happened was I updated my subscription to their software for an other year, and downloaded the key...but I was so tired at the time that I didn't go ahead and update my system. I closed AVG. Then, a day later, I tried to update the system, but I started falling asleep and shut the thing down. 24 hours later, I finally restarted it, and it tried to continue its download.....but it locked up. I would do nothing- It would try to boot-up, but no matter what you did, it would just show the picture I picked as a background. The shop was able to bypass the security, and bring my old data to my new MAC by putting the Sony hard drive in a box....and then plugging it into a USB port! I literaly moved file from one to another via the screen! My old Vaio: Well, it doesn't need to be beat around the world anymore, since it has gotten somewhat sensitive. I had XP reinstalled on this computer, and it now works perfectly. I have a MAC and an XP computer available, so software isn't an issue. I'll use the old Vaio as a backup for my video and photographic files. OS? I've been told it is easier to use. So far, I can't see much difference. I like to "nest" my photographs and documents. That is, I like to make folders within folders, and this is more difficult with this computer. |

Normy - I bought my wife the same 13" MacBook Pro for my wife last summer. While for work, I use a PC laptop, I have to say that I've been very happy with Mrs. Z-man's Mac. Easy to use, though I am still getting used to it -- it is kinda hard to find things, and isn't as easy to organized folders than the PC is.
So -- I use both Windows and MACs - what does that make me? Ghey? Metrosexual? Bi? Asexual? I am so confused... ![]() -Z-man.

I really really dislike the OS-X finder window. I'm a list view guy and on the Mac portions of the list view folders are always exploded making the view useless.

It's the gaunt look, black pants and black turtleneck thing that jobs has going on. It appeals to the anti-capitalist instincts of many for whom Apple is a religion. Bill Gates looks healthy and he has been known to wear a shirt and tie... --> establishment, capitalist, pig. That's all the thought that goes into it.

Query - any Mac users using the 'spaces' function? Not sure what that would be helpful for...

Yes I have - it give you the ability to have up to 8 separate programs running at one time and each one has their own desktop. Its for people who don't like clutter I guess. I use expose a lot more.
