Warped brake rotor...

I seem to have warped one of the Rotors I bought new from Pelican in August... Is there any way I can fix it or is it a boat anchor now? Its got like 4k on it....

You'll probably get more responses on the 944 forum, but....

It's my understanding that you can turn the NA rotors, if it's not warped too bad. Remove it and take it to your local NAPA. We're talking under $100 for the work.

Solid or vented? The only real way to know is to check runout. Can be done on the car, and a spec book will have the number. By the time you factor in the R&R (even yours) and the shop labor (you will want to do both of them) it might make more sense to live with it, or buy again.

Most warpage is from holding the brake after a 'vigourous' slow/stop. The heat of the caliper adds to the contact patch heat and warps that section only.

Most airlines prohibit parking brake after a landing or rejected T/O for that reason.

Good luck!

It shudders the whole car under braking is the only problem. I'm still trying to figure out how it got warped... I don't use the p brake when I know I've had the brakes hot... I'm not finding them on Pelican anymore... I only gave like 30 bucks for it IIRC. Now it looks like one is about 80 b/c Pelican doesn't have them...

Warped rotors are very VERY rare (more of a myth really). More than likely it's uneven deposition of pad material. Burnish them very good with a whizzer or put in some aggressive compound brake pads. Make a few hard stops. Should cure it.

I agree. It takes an absurd amount of heat to warp the rotors. 944 rotors are pretty stocky too - even the n/a ones.

Sid, regardless of what it's on,, you should go out and do some "spirited" starts/stops,, you can wipe the crap that's on them off. you might want to get a can of the spray on abrasive for brakes as well ...
