Dude, I just love Kahlua

2 C water
2 C 80 proof vodka
1.5 C granulated sugar
1.5 T of instant coffee
1.5 T of vanilla extract(not that artificial crapola)

Combine sugar, water and coffee in covered saucepan, bring to boil, boil for 10 minutes, do not allow it to boil over

Remove from heat, let cool for 5 minutes

Add vodka and vanilla, stir, pour into bottle right away(keeps booze from evaporating)

Store in 750 ml bottle, tightly capped for at least a month in a dark cool place, longer is better.

I use filtered water. For the booze, I use cheapo vodka, run through a Brita filter about a half dozen times. You have to toss the filter, but it is worth it, because you filter rotgut vodka like that and it tastes like Stoli.

To a cheap fokker like myself, a half gallon of Kahlua for about 5 bucks is too good to pass up

The Dude abides

Tobra,
Thanks, I had the recipe years ago, lost it. I never could let it age a month though, usually about one day was tops. Still taste good to me.

Very pipular in the gay community I'm told. Lots of tender lovin' care then syrupy sweetness down the throat.

Shot of bourbon would probably knock your socks off - leaving your sandals intact.

I hear Creme de Menthe makes you guys go absolutely NUTS!

We used to make this many many years ago. We'd bottle it in Grolsch bottles. Never could let it age for more than a day or three though. We used blue label vodka - only the best!

Grow a brain, get a better job and life so you can afford real booze but don't buy any , save your money so you can get the "L" tatoo removed from your forehead, "it tastes like Stoli" get some help , Stoli is for cleaning the toilet

What a douchebag, come back when you can afford to buy a clue Sheila. Are you still saving your money so you can get the surgery, or are you just taking the hormones?

Todd, it does not seem to taste as good with the high test booze, tried it with everclear, blue label smirnoff and it seems to turn out best. I give it away at Christmas to my doctor buddies, though I think their staff drinks it.

If you make it with tequila, it tastes like tequila. Bushmills or brandy in coffee for me, whip up a little Cafe Diablo

He'll probably laugh his ass off if you tell him about that fruity pinkish drink; what's it called, a Gay Magenta?

How does the "douchebag's" sexual orientation fit into this stimulating thread?

I have never gotten over the flavor of the instant coffee in it. I have a similar recipe I use but I've been trying to figure out how to use real good coffee in lieu of the instant. I really love this homemade kahlua, but we make "killer kahlua". 50/50 with everclear...

When I say "blue label", I'm referring to the generic Vodka that some places used to sell in the late 70's. The label was just a blue stripe and it said "Vodka." It was nasty, but made a passable Kahlua for very cheap.

Just boil with fresh ground coffee (instead of instant) and then strain the result to get out the grounds. That's what we used to do. Especially good with ground dark french beans.

Simple, make espresso using one of the Italian on the stove models.

Mr Boston was always the cheapest, when I was buying cheapo vodka.

The ex-wife never touched anything less than standard Smirnov. She was drinking 9-12 oz of "frozen" vodka a night, when I let her off the chain. She preferred Stoli or Popov, when we could afford it.

Kahlua? Ugh. Gross. Of course this stems from an incident in college years ago when I had one of those "late" final exams for a course I was taking. Pretty much the entire campus had emptied out, I was one of the last people left. Took my exam and didn't have a ride out until the next day. There wasn't anything open (dining halls were closed) and they'd already picked up my fridge/microwave thing (I was renting it from the university). I had two pieces of bread, a pack of mustard and a half a bottle of Kahlua (warm). And no money to go to 7-11. And had to last until the next day with no other food.

Needless to say, I have a less-than-favorable opinion of Kahlua since that experience.

The 98-year-old Mother Superior from Ireland was dying. The nuns gathered around her bed trying to make her last journey comfortable.

They gave her some warm milk to drink but she refused.

Then one of the nuns took the glass back to the kitchen. Remembering a bottle of Baily Irish Creme received as a gift the previous Christmas, she opened and poured a generous amount into the warm milk.
Back at Mother Superior's bed, she held the glass to her lips. Mother drank a little, then a little more and before they knew it, she had drunk the whole glass down to the last drop.
"Mother," the nuns asked with humility, "please give us some wisdom before you die."
She raised herself up in bed and with a pious look on her face said, "Don't sell that cow."

I just made some more, used up the last of the instant coffee. I don't have any decent coffee beans as I have been on a green tea kick. I am definitely trying this next time. No way that it was originally made with instant. Maybe about a quadruple espresso worth, then the good people at Krups provide the filtration.

The Groelsch bottles are nice for when it turns out a little more than the number of bottles you were planning to make.
