Buh-bye Trojans?
I get home, turn on the news, and the lead story is Pete Carroll is all but set to head to the Seattle Seahawks.
![]() News is still coming in about it, but with all of USC's athletic legal problems, I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves... USC? I think they're targeting Tennessee coach, Lane Kiffin as Carroll's replacement. Here's some news about it: Report: Carroll and Seahawks close to a deal - Pac-10 Blog - ESPN And Carroll's potential replacement: Lane Kiffin Will Lane Kiffin Emerge as Pete Carroll's Potential Replacement at USC? | Bleacher Report Oh man! ![]()

Yup. Very possible.
Aaron Corp announced yesterday he's leaving to go to some small school, Carroll's already lost his coaching staff a couple times over in the past several years, Running back McNight announced he is going pro, there may be nothing left of USC for many years. But they still got that golden boy freshman quarterback that they bet the farm on, the one that completes passes to the other team too often. They're sure gonna miss that farm ......... |

Wow! I am not a USC fan, but Pete Carroll is a good coach. Lane Kiffin........that's just a shame.

hopefully they can clean up their entire athletics department, stop the cheating in recruiting, paying players, etc.
Carroll wasn't a great coach, wasn't it the NFL and wasn't really in college, either. With all of those recruiting classes (including the paid players like Reggie Bush, etc.), any medicre coach was going to win one (1) BCS championship in 9-10 years like he did. |

Jim Levitt at USF was also fired for allegations of smacking a player.

There's also talk of Mike Riley from OSU and Jack Del Rio coming in to fill Carroll's spot.
Honestly -- and oh, the blasphemy -- I'm glad to see Pete go. He should have left right after that blown 4th down call that lost USC the BCS Championship against Vince Young and Texas.

![]() ![]() ![]() Cheat Carroll's life of crime in teh Ghetto is finally coming to an end. He won't succeed in the nfl because all the teams there have the same salary cap, unlike the "system" he's been operating under the past 10 years. Hopefully they don't land Mike Riley. He's too honest for them, they like the Carrolls, Tim Floyds, etc. of the world. |

Never underestimate USC football. Even with the President of the school stepping down last fall, and there having been a campus-wide hiring freeze since last February, the football program is its own beast. Trojan football can afford to change Riley's mind with lots of zeroes, if it sees fit to do so.
I'd still rather see Jack Del Rio as the USC coach. Not as much baggage as Riley. And a linebacker at that.

Big mistake. In college ball, Carroll is a legend. In pro ball he'll be a nobody. When he was with New England he was a good coach but ultimately ineffective. Why not stay where you're great rather than take a chance on being (at best) mediocre or "fair"?

Yeah, just ask Spurrier or Saban how much they liked life in the NFL. I don't see Kiffin leaving the SEC. Even his dad says this is the most fun he's ever had coaching. Bigger stadiums, bigger crowds, more excitement...I think USC would be s step backwards...

2. There's a phrase: Better to be a tail among lions than a head among sheep. Doesn't mean I think he's a lock to succeed in the NFL. But I can certainly understand why he might feel he's got unfinished business. Add in the heat he's facing for NCAA violations and an even bigger paycheck from Seattle (with no state income tax, to boot), and that might push him to take this opportunity.

Decent school and "recently" a pretty good football team.
Only issue in Socal is that som many people find their identity by associating themselves to SC. The flags, the license plate frames, the clothing, etc... IT GETS OLD. GROW UP! I am proud of a lot of things, but bragging about a school you may not have attended or had attended 20 years ago is just sad. I will miss the dominance of SC, but then again I did not miss it the 20 years prior to this run. Best of luck Carroll; take the money and Run!
