Only in CA does rain constitute a state disaster.

Hey look, you added an "s". Now THAT is clever!

Maybe if morons didn't build houses in fire zones the rest of the USA wouldn't pay for CA forest fires and mudslides?

If I misspelled the name it was an accident, everyone has to live someplace, you chose to live there.

I'm convinced you have no idea of what you're talking about.

Fire zones...what the hell are fire zones?

We had a few tornadoes too...in our tornado zone.

Known by you folks as tornado alley.

You would have felt right at home...

Not just morons. Apparently Kansas has hypocrites and douchebags too.

The same areas in CA that seem to catch fire every year. Every thread about CA fires features CA residents, many who have posted here, ranting about the stupidity of those that build in these areas. Sorry if my terminology was wrong.

By the way, "tornado alley" consists of parts of at least 6 states (depending on where you look). I've lived in KS my entire life and never seen one actually on the ground.

KS and the Wizard of Oz? You're digging deep! Ever think of a career in comedy?

Thanks for the response. You obviously put a lot of thought into your decisive and timely retort.

By the way, my terminology wasn't made up: California Fire Hazard Severity Zone Map, courtesty of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
CAL FIRE - Fire Protection - Zone Maps

Actually, I think the Wizard has his place here in CA.

That map is who does the work of fighting them. Problem aside from arson is that mother nature has designed this place to have a good burn from time to time. It is just the way it is. Just like grass fires and forest fires.

I understand, this is part of my 18 acres of fire zone.

I clear brush 200 feet and insure the house heavily.

Just so you know, Matt, any place can be a "fire zone." It depends on how far the embers fly.

Also, Ca. has very strict brush clearance and roof regulation laws. The fine is enormous for a homeowner who does not abide by these rules/codes.

We can and do prevent a lot of fire damage in lieu of what the news shows people in Kansas and elsewhere.

You have to remember that for folks outside the immediate area rely on the media for information. The media likes to dramatize everything to gain an audience. Yes SoCal has had a ton of rain and there is lots of flooding but except for a few extreme instances life is going on - kids are in school, folks are commuting to work.

Same for the fires. The news likes to portray the entire state engulfed in flame. Reality is that 99% of the residents were unaffected and moving on with their daily routine.
