I just checked it out on their site.

No USB..
No kickstand...
Too wide to grab edge to edge...

From a heavy use tablet user's POV "Thud" is right.

...and yet even the local (HI) news gives them free press.

Size matters...

One of the things I like to do is watch a ripped movie in a window while I do other work or surf. Single-tasking precludes this entirely.

Let me give a little insight I think I have for this product, from other products

I have a WM 6.1 Palm Treo Pro. While I had a previous WM6 phone, I picked up a Redfly. This is a "netbook" like device which connects with the WM6 phone. Since the WM6 phones are basically a small computer, these are 640x480 screens with a keyboard. They let you use the WM apps on a full screen with a decent keyboard. Sounds good.

But...

The screen won't do video
The apps are really slow, compared with a Netbook
Storage is limited to what is on the SD cards, 16GB

You see where I'm going? This ISN'T a PC. It is a giant Ipod. It won't do what the Mac Books will do. I only paid $199 for the Redfly. My Netbook cost $279. And the Netbook, while a little slower, will do everything my regular Notebook can do.

I took the Netbook out last week when I went to El Paso. I was gone for a bit over 24 hours. The Netbook was fine. I doubt you'd be happy with the Ipad for a couple of days on the road.

Office won't run on the iPad, correct?

enzo1 01-29-2010 01:57 PM

No, but it will run Iworks, my wife says it's getting better, Dunnho

Well, there is Star Office.

So (w/o reading a bunch of old posts), can peripherals be hooked up to it? And what about RAM? I hear it can't hold that much.

Only Apple supplied items through the same connector as the Ipod/iPhone. No USB connectors. No SD card slot.

enzo1 01-29-2010 02:26 PM

it's meant to be another appliance, slotted into a gap Apple had between phone & full fledged computer. Steve Job's philosophy is the netbook doesn't have much either, and he hates netbooks, this might not work for you in a office. it's kind of like a Cayman ... lots of people are going to say its under powered ... but the chassis is great, mid engine... I have a macbook, imac, iphone, atv ..... i'm thinking of replace my iphone with this not my computer not yet, this is in it's infancy. also most of my stuff is older because it just keeps running & looks great free updates, I just replaced my old mouse with a magic mouse, it's like I got a brand new computer

BRPORSCHE 01-29-2010 02:29 PM

Enzo, Answer me this.

Tell me how Apple (the omnipotent God) has figured I should plug my CF car into the iPad?

And I don't want to hear I need a $200 dollar gizmo.

enzo1 01-29-2010 02:56 PM

BRPORSCHE- Mobile Me- account 49$ no Cf with Apple ( the omnipotent God) & dd74 I amended my post above, thought u meant" in " the office, not MSoffice

For SD card, you'll probably use the camera connection kit. For either SD or CF card, you could put the card in the card reader attached to your computer, and then transfer via the iPad's dock or via WLAN or 3G. Read below, it should answer some questions.

The iPad will also come with a variety of accessories at launch, including:
iPad Keyboard Dock: A combination full-size keyboard/charger, allowing the iPad to be synced to a computer, recharged via a USB Power Adapter, and linked with accessories such as the Camera Connection Kit.
iPad Case: This carrying case doubles as a sort of stand, allowing the screen to be propped in different positions for movie- and media-viewing.
iPad Dock: Used for recharging the device, as well as syncing to a computer. Both the iPad Dock and the iPad Keyboard Dock contain an audio jack for connecting to a stereo or speakers.
iPad Camera Connection Kit: This accessory lets users import photos and videos onto the iPad using a USB cable. An SD Card Reader also allows media to be directly ported onto the iPad from the camera’s SD card.
iPad USB Power Adapter: A 10W USB Power Adapter, with a six-foot power cable.

The" Kindle " ( sold 2.5 million since 2007) is what the Ipad is being compared to, it is 10$ higher, i don't know about you but this is a no brainer for me IMHO, this will sell that many in the 1st 3 months
