Yes, clearly her double digit grammy wins do not speak to her immense pool of talent.

Seriously dude.....seriously?

Just watch the vids i linked, you'll see why she has 10's of millions of fans.

BTW: You have missed some GREAT Grammy performances over the years with your self-imposed boycott.

Like this one:

This may be the best live singing performance i have ever seen.

That is doubly true for Shakira.

You guys should all watch the Destiny's child videos i posted just to watch three extremely healthy black chicks shaking dey moneymakers like there's no tomorrow.

Those chicks can REALLY dance!

Ok, i just watched 45 seconds of the 'survivor' thing you posted.

C A N N E D G E N E R I C C O R P O R A T E S H I T

Mixed with a few cups of thuggish attitude thrown at the camera.

Yes, but the chicks are HOT!!!! They don't even really start dancing until about a minute in. haha, short attention span! :D

PS: I readily admit that I like dance music.

I finally saw The Who at the Gorge Amphitheatre a few years ago, before Entwhistle passed. Amazing band. Being a former bass player and having heard all their music hundreds of times, I was apparently still unprepared for the skill of that man.

Yesterday's performance was pathetic.

herr_oberst 02-08-2010 12:14 PM

Okay, two more suggestions:

• Jane's Addiction

•*Big Head Todd and the Monsters

m21sniper 02-08-2010 12:15 PM

Never heard of the second, but does jane's addiction have any song besides, "Jane says"?

I've never heard any other song of theirs, but that one i've heard about 10 gillion times. And i hate it.

Hillary Clinton won a Grammy for her audio version of "It Takes a Village." Rush and Kiss get regularly passed over for the R&R Hall of Fame.

Seriously dude, Grammy's have as much to do with talent as the Nobel Peace Prize does with peace. Sometimes they do get it right, but not much more often than a broken clock being right and for the same reasons.

m21sniper 02-08-2010 12:17 PM

Hey, how about Amy Lee/Evanescence? They kick serious ass.

I am sure you'd acknowledge that someone has 10 grammys, they have them for a reason, right? 1 or 2, ok, maybe you've got a point. But once someone starts winning mountains of grammys, you have to take note.

Beyonce' is a great singer and dancer. You might not like her music, but her talent is undeniable.

I never said she's not talented. It's just that her music is not timeless. It will not stand up in 20 yrs. and getting a Grammy because she's popular or sells a ton of CD's or downloads means nothing to me. Watching synchronized dancing is the last thing any music fan cares about. When I see someone dancing with a headset mic on, I think of Beavis and Butt Head taking orders at the Burger World drive-thru. Having a bunch of others, usually gay men, dance with them really doesn't help the already weak, computer-made, drum-machine-laden, written-by-someone-else "music."

GH85Carrera 02-08-2010 12:22 PM

Snipe, part of the difference is the ONLY female singer that got me to buy a CD or album was Janice Joplin. No amount of alcohol can make Janice look good.

I just don't care for Whitney Houston. I don't care if she has a thousand awards from the hand me an award community. I just don't care for female singers for the most part.

Someone dissing Houston? Ummmmmm..........

Nearly every singer you hear does a poor job of hitting, holding and backing away from the notes. Not to mention that vibratto thing they do which usually includes losing the pitch of the note. If you want to see a clinic on voice control, watch Whitney Houston's video "I Will Always Love You." Major show-off stuff, if you understand singing.

And quite frankly, I don't ever expect to hear a rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner like the one she did at Super Bowl XXV. Click below. If your cheeks are not wet at the end, then either something is wrong with your ears, or something is wrong with your patiotism.

GH85: I love Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I suspect it's the closest i'll ever hear to an Angel singing in my ear. ;)

I love female vocalists in general. Amy Lee is probably my current fave.

People that like it now will like it then.

Old School Rap, techno, etc, etc, is still very popular in clubs and with people our age.

You're just not one of the people that like it. :)

I already posted this exact video in praise of Whitney Houston, as well as one of her Grammy performances.

IMO she is tied for the greatest voice of my life time, with Mariah Carey.
