I'd pay a dollar to see that. :D

Obviously music is a very personal taste. I can't define what I like but I know it when I hear it.

I'd like to raise my glass and toast all the bands and musicians that have brought me joy and happiness in my lifetime, the Who being one of them. My life would not be as rich but for them.

I saw that on wikipedia as well. The bassist looked more like Townsend than not. Seeing that Simon was/is a member, maybe he switched to bass for this show?

I really like her and Destiny's child.

But then, i am diversified! :D

What kind of music do you like? I have everything from Elvis to Beethoven to Britney Spears to Drowning Pool to System of a Down to the Rolling Stones to Rage Against the Machine to Johnny Cash in my playlist.

I don't see the Jonas Bros, or Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana or Selena Gomez on yyou playlist. LOL That what on my Eyepod because my 7 y.o. like to listen to them.

No, no miley cyrus. I think she's hideous. No Jonas, don't think i've ever actually heard one of their songs. Selena Gomez i've never heard of.

OK, so Daltrey and Townshend aren't as good as they once were. No surprise at 65, right? I think it's inherently much more fun (and interesting) to have some rock-n-roll icons from the past put on a little show at halftime (if for now other reason than to see what they've still got) than it would be to put some currently popular act on for a 12 min PR stunt. If you want to see some pop-culture bimbo strut her stuff, buy an overpriced concert ticket and get 2 hours worth of it in the company of a bunch of 12 year olds.

(I admit I'd be hard-pressed to apply this analysis to the Stones performance at the SB a couple of years back... Now that was interesting, but granted a bit hard to take. :))

The RS's Superbore performance was sloppy....the WHO has always been a bit slopppy around the edges (Keith Moon speciality)...but the energy of that band has always amazed...listen to the "Live AT Leeds" album short version.....one of the best LIVE ALBUMS EVER>..or "the Kids Are All Right" movie....

I THOUGHT THEY STILL HAD THE JUICE...

been a jane's addiction fan since 1988. one of my alltime faves. saw em in 1990 and last summer at lollapalooza with original lineup and they were great as always. i drove 11 hours to see them. however, they will never be invited to the superbowl and im not sure i would like it if they were

Last night's performance by The Who could have been improved by a factor of 10 if Townsend's guitar hadn't been so far down in the mix. It may have sounded better in the stadium, but the TV mix was horrible.

Re: Daltrey and Townsend hitting/holding the notes: both should be professional enough not to go out there unless they can still do it... or get pretty close. They are gonna have to live with that major suckfest of vocals for the rest of their lives. It was shameful. They should have used a voice coach and done all sorts of throat therapy for a month beforehand... anything that would make sure that it didn't happen the way it did.

But if Pete had been higher in the mix, it would've covered some of it up.

Stick ZZTop out there and you've got a party. Is there a list somewhere of bands that have done the halftime show? Has Bob Seeger done it? George Thorogood? They'd both rock it.

Has anyone here ever seen Deborah Coleman or Michael Burks live? I have and they each have what it takes to put on a killer halftime performance. Just Google a few of their vids until you've seen each of them doing a few uptempo Chicago Blues songs. Either artist would absolutely bring the house down and leave people screaming for more.

Didn't read all the comments. But I saw The Who in 1973 or so, and they were amazing. I see a bunch of tired old guys now in comparison. Still OK, but a shell of their former self. Listen to an old recording of the Stones (Paint it Black) and Mick was really, really good, now not so much. I agree that they should retire and live on their royalties. But, if they want to continue playing good for them.

I saw the Shakira/Beyonce song/video. Pure sex. Music? Uhh...there was music playing?!?

System of a Down makes me laugh. Pure comedy music imho. I hope they don't take themselves seriously because they make giggle music. Kind of like CW McCall for the 90's. Living Colour would kick their arse.

I thought the worst part of the show was Townsend's wardrobe malfunction. Good gawd man, test your jacket and make sure your shirt can stay tucked in. That was ugly. I thought Daltrey actually was in good form. As for the mistakes....it's the damn Who. Go rent the Isle of Wight '70 concert. The Who are not a clinical band. Townsend is not a particularly great soloist. But he is a brilliant writer and a showman with the guitar. They came in and did exactly what people wanted them to do - do a medley of their hits (which are among the greatest hits of popular music over the past 50 years) and then leave. Btw, Pino Palladino is a monster bass player.

All things considered, they were less embarrassing than the Stones these days or any other number of geezer acts playing around. I saw a recent video of KISS. That is sad. ZZ Top however can still bring it and they have aged rather well (easier when you have 4' long beards). Clapton also has aged gracefully.

The bands that they should have had were either Green Day or Foo Fighters. They have been around long enough to have a broad recognition factor, they are awesome live, and write very hooky tunes.

Rick Lee 02-08-2010 08:45 PM

Foo Fighters would have been good.

I read a rumor today that Rush might be playing the opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Olympics. They're a geezer band, but play better now than they ever have.

Agree that Green Day would be a phenomenal choice though i personally have gotten a bit tired of that wierd little guy with the black eyeliner.

ZZ Top might be the BEST choice though. And would they let Thorougood do 'One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer'? Can you imagine the crowd singing along with that one! Too cool!!!!

herr_oberst 02-09-2010 03:51 AM

+ 1 on Foo Fighters

m21sniper 02-09-2010 03:58 AM

I'm underwhelmed by all the suggestions on this page.

Daughtry would be very solid, and wow.....Hip too.

berettafan 02-09-2010 04:28 AM
