I'm not going to enter the debate regarding what Shaun should or should not have done. I wasn't there, and neither were most of you.

But.....based on what I've read here, I would certainly carry a loaded gun for a while. I estimate the likelihood of this fruitcake coming back into the picture at least 50/50. At least. And I would start with the assumption he is armed, dangerous and arriving with bad intent. If Shaun acted properly by peacefully retiring the situation today, if this guy reappears, it would be foolish for Shaun to show the slightest hesitation. If you see this guy again Shaun, and if one of his hands disappears from your sight, he needs to be looking down a barrel.

It's real easy to post on an internet forum that you would have kicked that guy's ass. It's another thing entirely when you are put in the situation and you don't have a keyboard to protect you.

Shaun could have kicked the guy's ass. OR, he might have ended up in the hospital, and then got sued for everything he owns. Calling the cops is the right thing to do.

Not everybody is "likes to fight guy". I can do it, but I really hate it.

I think Shaun showed proper restraint in this case. As much as I believe in defending yourself when you feel threatened, you where are at your place of business and this was a "lose/lose" proposition for you. Unless you felt threatened and needed to defend yourself from bodily harm, best to walk away and call the police. My guess is that this idiot wanted to pull you into a physical confrontation so that he could have turned it into a lawsuit. As a business owner and mature adult, you come would ahve come out of this on the short end even if you kicked his ass. Just not worht the risk, IMO
I would call the police just to get it on record just in case he does reappears looking for a confrontation.

Now before sniper calls me "puzzy", I should point out that I did grow up in Philly, in an area and that we all knew and understood the "code". I have been in plenty of "tussles" in my younger years over someone "touching me" or "disrespecting me" so I certainly understand the natural reaction of "kicking ass" when placed in these types of situations. But I always remember the advice my father would give his sons about fighting. "Walk away today so you can fight another day". I had a hard time with his advice when I was young buck looking to protect my rep but his point was simple; be selective when you choose to use your fists and always weigh the consequences that will occur afterwards. As I stated earlier, I grew up in an area in Philly that could would be "consequences" if you picked the wrong guy to fight. When I was young, it didn't matter nor did I care so I was quick to "throw down" to resolve most issues or protect my rep. As I got older and hopefully more wiser his advice made more sense. Back in the old days men could settle a dispute with a fair fight, unfortunatley in todays world,its more likely one or both will pull out a weapon to settle a score or "lawyer up"for some compensation. IMO, just not worth the risk of being sued or killed. I give my son the same advice my father gave me and hopefully it guilds him to avoid most physical confrontations unless absolutely necessary and minimizes te consequences that come with these types of decisions. Always wiegh the potential consequences before you act as some could be life changing experences.
One last thought, get rid of the temp, the fact that she brought that type of element into your place of business doesn't warrant keeping her around.

Shaun did the right thing; I wouldn't of called the cops as its a waste of time imo. Glad it worked out for you though and having a good relationships with the boys in blue cant hurt.

If he looks or appears tougher than you, then OK give him a wack, but if not, just handle the situation like you did; which is prolly the case. Last guy that took a swing at me I just grabbed him in a second flat and threw him on the ground with all I could muster. He was younger and tougher, but I was older and wiser.

Shaun invited him into his place or the invite was implied.
If Shaun felt threatened, he's supposed to call the cops and let them deal with it. He cannot FORCIBLY remove someone from his place. That's the cops job.
If Shaun DID strike the guy, the guy could press charges. It then becomes a he said/ she said. Everyone loses but Shaun loses more as a business owner.

I don't like it but that's the way the law works.
Had a similar situ happen to me and I dropped the guy. Cops damn near arrested ME!

Shaun did the right thing. Going forward, if douche nozzle shows up again, Shaun can protect himself as needed and the cops will believe his story.

Why am i not self employed? 2 of my biggest accounts retired/closed shop, and my biggest account gave his accounts to his relative.

This all happened in a matter of 2 months.

At that point it was easier and more lucrative just to work for a big repo firm, which is what i did.

Todd you don't survive in the neighborhood i grew up in as one of the smallest guys in a mixed race melting pot unless you are willing to throw down at a moment's notice.

I've also had to fight numerous times as a bartender or member of a club security staff, as well as having had to fight off more than a few assaults over the years on the job.

That covers at least 1/2 of the fights i've been in, and not a single one of them were by choice.

And then there were the bar fights in the military when we ran into marines or gun bunnies that wanted to run their mouth about the US Army infantry.

We come from extremely divergent worlds Todd. Your attitude wouldn't last 5 minutes in the neighborhood i grew up in. Honestly.

I can honestly say i used to love to fight when i was younger. I didn't care if i lost, as long as i got enough of a piece of the other guy to make sure he'd remember me.

In my hood you fought to show you weren't a biitch.

Turning the other cheek or calling the cops made things a thousand times worse for you in my hood, and it still does in hoods all across America every day.

Talking to the cops is considered extremely dishonorable among the natives in these locales.
