I'm not certain that a A.R. 22 caliber clone frame and a no marking slide truly qualify as a piece of US history, but you are right "opinions vary".

Just out a curiosity, if you were shooting single shot black powder match, what would you use?

Be sure you video tape the first time you spool up the turbo after that. I'd like to watch it...

Davey shot a flintlock and there are a couple of flintlocks in the collection but that would be a different class.

I was serious. You guys were quick to criticize a custom built hand gun that was used to win a California state championship back in the eighties so I thought for sure you knew something that the rest of us didn't.

I not trying to make a big deal out of this, I just get tired of the constant critiques with no apparent value.

A rolling block is a breach loader that uses a cartridge and as such wouldn't qualify in most if any black powder matches.

The collection will be inventoried and appraised. There are some issues with specific weapons so minor repairs and cleaning will be performed.
My friend has Alzheimer's so the funds will be used to help with medical care.

Since you asked, I can think of several things i'd rather have than a bastardized 1911 if i was having a gun custom built from next to scratch.

The entire purpose of the slide assy on there is most confusing. Using a 1911 frame would make quite a lot of sense though. Really nice grip angle. But i'd want a totally fixed barrel, the mass of the slide serves no apparent purpose. It would be better to mount the bbl and a breech directly to the frame.

You cannot put up something like that on an internet site and expect to not get criticized. You should see the crap people said to me when i posted my pic here some months ago. Totally hateful bile. It was amazing.

The barrel is attached directly to the frame and the slide is immobilized. The main purpose of the slide is to act as a base for the sights. The other benefits to using this frame are parts availability, great trigger availability and cost to construct. The almost immeasurable benefit is the familiarity to the 1911. Anyone who shot in competition back in the 70s and 80s would have put 1000s of round 1911 so practice without the mess and tedium of muzzle loading could be accomplished.
The grip angle, sights, trigger pull, energy transfer (recoil) and weight would all be very familiar.

I have a couple of accurized 1911 colts and recently bought two Glocks ( the trend got me I guess). I spent weeks at the range trying to get the feel of the Glocks and every time I picked up one of my Colts it was like "going home". I don't know about you but for me and my guess most people who have shot more than a few thousand rounds, feel is everything. Strangely enough I get the same feel from my Supermatics but I think that was the plan when High Standard deigned them.

I agree the 1911 frame makes a lot of sense. The slide seems really superfluous though. Sights could easily be mounted on much lighter custom bases.

I'm glad we did say something now though- because at least we have an idea of what the spoon is for. I can honestly say i've never before put much thought into a custom single shot muzzle loader. It's an interesting subject.

I'd really want some kind of modernized pirate gun though- just for the coolness factor, ARRRRRRRRGH!

PS: You have to admit upon first sight that 1911 is a shock to the senses.

Remember, this is an older guy, when he did this, 1911s may have been more common & cheap..... Just a thought, think of the things that have been done to early 911s...

I would be interested in the sxs shotguns ad the flintlocks or any other SS rifle. also the 1911 in the box wrapped in plastic. The targt scope is a Unertle and is od interest. The Win mdl 12 2 B set in he Browning case.

The German SS rifles is really not all that expensive.

Need pictures of the SXS's, maker, serial numbers, Gauge..

Also SN on the Colt 1911 in the box, and markings etc PICs would help..it is prewar.

The postwar Colt NM NIB is about a $1800 pistol..must have box to be worth thqt much.

The Norwegian 1911 was made under license....called a mdl 1914

It also looks llike there is a 1903 Pocket Hammer in 38 ACP..this is not the 38 suoer cartridge.

The USS WW2 1911 can be worth some dinero if it is in mint unaltered condition.
