LOL, yep.
But even professional Infantrymen make mistakes... We soldiers had safeties on our M-16s to prevent bad things from happening when we put our finger in the trigger guard for a cool pic to send home to our folks. Access to all forms of ammunition was also rigorously controlled. Why? To prevent AD's. |

I'm happy to report that on my recommendation yet another Pelican is the proud owner of a P7.
![]() Hey Seahawk, did you ever get a P7? Everyone seems to be out of them, so the window of opportunity is apparently almost closed to get them so cheap. Anyone know anything about these? ![]() FN FNP They got them on HKspecialist.com in both 9mm and .40 cal with 3 mags for DIRT CHEAP! $369.00, your choice. They're DA/SA and have frame mounted ambidextrous manual safety/decockers. Last edited by m21sniper; 03-26-2010 at 07:31 PM.. |

I'd rather pick up an 18" tac 12 gauge pump for home defense. Even beside the bed I don't see how the pistol beats it.

I have both by my bed. Man, the shotgun would make a mess.

This is my bedroom defense solution:
![]() ![]() ![]() Magnetic strip is sold at home depot for under $20.00- just wrap it with some black tape (cloth tape is best) to protect the finishes of your spoons. My AR (and the rest of my zombie gear) is in my closet about 6 feet from my bed. Last edited by m21sniper; 03-29-2010 at 08:23 AM.. |

Grade A P7's with plastic box, 2 magazines, all take down tools, and gas tube scraper for $740.00.
This is a killer deal. All the the other P7 sources online seem to be out of them. WTS: P7's Grade A Used Last edited by m21sniper; 04-10-2010 at 04:52 PM.. |

Just couldn't make that other deal you posted work given Maryland's laws...the shop would not ship to MD.
Still peeking.

I was reading about FN's new 45 in some handgun magazine recently, but I don't know where to go check one out...

Do a google and look at some USER (as opposed to bought and paid for gunwriter) reviews.
Here's one i found real quick for you, that seems to be very positive: The Best Nines - Best 9mm Pistol Site handgun review test gun dealer auction If i was in the market -so long as the user reviews i read were all positive, i'd buy one. It really has all the features i look for in a compact duty sized pistol. |

I like that PX4 Storm one, it's in my price range and got some good reviews. Maybe I'll try that one.
I went to a gun store here locally and they suggested a revolver. They had a .38 special and a .357 magnum, both smith and wesson, both used. They were both around $350. I like the look of the semi-automatics better, but I guess you could say to stick with the tried and true revolver too...

Nate if you're the sort of guy that doesn't practice or have time to clean your auto monthly(whether you fire it or not), a revolver is the best bet.
However, if you can shoot/clean it regularly, an auto has clear advantages. I'm finding myself REALLY wanting a FN 5.7 I was looking at a detailed breakdown of the Ft Hood shooting, the little 40gr V-Max is one absolutely DEVASTATING cartridge. (in this case...sadly.) After reviewing the details (14 dead off of just 11 torso hits and 1 head shot, with 17 peripheral hits scored), IMO the comparisons to the .22 mag are way, way, way off base. Plus it has 20+1 capacity. It is a very expensive spoon though, retail is about $1000 Last edited by m21sniper; 04-01-2010 at 02:35 PM.. |

Hkspecialiststore.com still has the 16 shot FN guns for $380.
That's an amazing price- my buddy was looking at them online and said they go for $600ish on gunbroker. Last edited by m21sniper; 04-10-2010 at 04:52 PM.. |

Snipe, I have a 5-7 and it's awesome. Low recoil, accurate, hi cap, and great ballistics. People that think it's just a 22mag should be comparing it to the 5.56. IMO they share more characteristics than the 22mag.

cheap doesnt mean effective. unless you score a kill shot, 9mm and under wont stop someone from attacking you. waht good is a gun if you shoot someone and they continue to advance? i have many handguns, 380, 9mm, 44mag, but the one on my nightstand is the 45. tried and true, it will put them down. my only other choice would be a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun with an 18 inch barrel. if (or when) the time comes, and you have to make that choice, dont bet your life on an ineffective weapon. save some more money, buy a decent gun, have piece of mind

From the statistics i saw in reference to the Fort Hood terrorist attack, there were 14 fatalities on just 11 torso hits and 1 head shot. There were 17 more peripheral hits.
29 hits, less than 50% COM...14 fatalities. IIRC there were about 65rds fired by the terrorist. Cartridge used was the 40gr 5.56mm V-Max, which apparently fragments in the same fashion as 5.56mm military FMJ or OTM ammo, even at the reduced FN 5.7 pistol velocities. I bought into the "It's a glorified .22 mag" hype too until I read a couple statements that the V-max rounds achieve violent fragmentation. The same round will also easily defeat a Class IIA vest. From what i've read the 5.7 also has 100+ meter accuracy and the SA trigger pull can be cleaned up very nicely. Plus, it has a safety. ![]() Nasty. Very nasty. ![]() Now that the goofy triggerguard has been replaced, it's actually a pretty sleek looking pistol. I want one. Last edited by m21sniper; 04-03-2010 at 05:34 AM.. |

Fn 5 7
Hey Snipe - Since you steered me correctly to my P7, pictures to follow, I need to return the favor re the 5 7. For leo's or military personnell with credentials, retired or not, FlN USA is offering a $200 rebate on this model - may be limited time so everyone save one for me when I can recover from P7 purchase. Heads up and eye's right - Bob
