Vets being disarmed at VA hospitals by Homeland Security?

If this is true then we have a very big problem going on. A month ago vets were labeled as "potential terrorists" and now this pops up.

Before you look, there is nothing on Snopes about this.

U.S. Military Veterans being disarmed

(TRN) — The U.S. Veterans Administration has been instructed by the Department of Homeland Security to ask military vets 3 questions when they come in for any kind of medical check-up or problem. Answering “Yes” to any single question will result in the vet being disarmed by the government.

The following e-mail was sent to the Turner Radio Network by a Vietnam Veteran who enjoys our radio shows. His identity is being concealed to prevent reprisals.

“I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found something very interesting I would like to pass along.. While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions.
(1. Did I feel stressed?)
(2. Did I feel threatened?)
(3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?)

The nurse then informed me, if I had answered yes to any of the questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

I am a Viet Nam vet and 15 year cc permit holder.

Looks like they are going after us vets.”
Be forewarned and be aware.

The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun owners as potential terrorists.

If you are a veteran, you’ve been warned.

If you know veterans, please pass this on to them.

Joe,

That's pretty scary stuff! I'm a vet and every morning I awake.........well, never mind, I'll keep my responses to myself.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is true. Let's hope not though.

I don't know how this would work. Maybe it would produce a "downcheck" from the FBI background check. It certainly can't be used to deny you the ability to purchase a firearm, sicne you have to be involuntarily commited to an institution to lose you ability to purchase.

Also DHS doesn't have anything to do with firearms. FBI and BATFE, yes. DHS, no.

So, I call BS on this one. Fear mongering.

I call BS on this one, but if its true, that would be a PR distaster of the BHO administration.

This is B.S., as is most of this sort of stuff that some PPOTers routinely post from right-wing email lists.

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/v/va-test-permit.htm

Summary of the eRumor:
A forwarded email that cautions veterans about questions that maybe asked while in treatment at the Veterans Hospital. The email says that if a veteran is asked about being stressed, feeling threatened or wanting to harm someone and if their answer is yes they could lose any authorization to carry a concealed weapon.

The Truth:
This one is fiction. A spokesperson at the Veterans Hospital told TruthorFiction.com that all patients are protected by doctor/patient confidentiality and any information taken by the Veterans Administration (VA) is never shared with any outside agencies. The only exemption to the case would be if a hospital were asked to assist in a criminal investigation.

The three questions about feeling stressed, threatened and desiring to harm others are to test for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which some of our men and women in the armed services have suffered as a result of combat. This test is administered to many patients who served in the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Come on folks, isn't there some obligation to try and ensure that what we post here on PPOT is truth rather than invented BS? It took literally 5 seconds to check this one out. Sure, you can get other people to do the work for you, but that's pretty inconsiderate.

It may be false, but just because an UN NAMED spokesperson denied it, that is hardly grounds to call it false.

Ya orygun whacko ya.

Even if false it is good information. Just like the cops asking for an SSN for a traffic infraction stop. Also, if a cop stops you for an infraction he does NOT have probable cause to search your vehicle. This is just good information and advise to consider and tuck away just in case you are presented with this type of situation.

VA Questions Regarding Concealed Carry Permit

This is 100% false. I guess people would rather believe a lie, then the truth, if it doesn't support their own political beliefs. To me, that's more scary then the actual lie!!! Throughout history, this is how innocent people were convicted of crimes they never commited!! This is NOT the American way!
The following info was taken from VA Screening Vets to Take Away Concealed Carry Permits | Battle of the Bilge
This website is the Military Officers Association of America.

Another viral email about President Obama taking away your guns, this time focused on veterans and VA screening. The story is probably a shadow of an anecdote that was altered for political purposes, but there is no truth to the statement attributed to the nurse in the email below. The volume in this email is rivaling another that we’re working on for a later article regarding a $50 tax penalty for gun owners (which is also clever bilge).

There are many logical problems with this email (tip of the hat to VA Watchdog for some crucial details, and if they are calling Bilge on a VA matter you can take it to the bank):

The first line gives the wrong name for the VA, a dead giveaway from the start. [B]The U.S. Veterans Administration is not the name of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
The DVA is strict in upholding patient/doctor confidentiality, and does not report information to the Department of Homeland Security unless there’s been a commission of a crime. Being stressed, feeling threatened and having thoughts of harming others are not crimes by any stretch of legalities.
DHS has no bearing on whether or not a concealed carry permit is issued. Depending on state laws it is the responsibility of the state, county or city of residence of the citizen.
There is no record of DHS asking DVA to ask these questions, and even if they did, the DVA is an independent cabinet position and not under the jurisdiction of DHS.
The lack of any good specifics, such as a location, person, etc…
These are questions that veterans of combat are routinely asked during examinations to look for signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and they’ve been a part of screening for longer than Obama has been president.
For further details of the realities of gun control in the Obama era, please read our own analysis, found here. There have not been any significant changes to the situation since that article was written
