How effed up is my house...?! (Picture heavy)

You guys are terrible. It's made for some entertainment at work, that's for sure! The guys love your comments..! So they also said I should clarify, I've been remodeling for a while, yea, but I'm only 3-4 months into the kitchen. And yes it has to be fully functional. Not easy to do.
You probably would've called me nuts and wondered what the hell I was thinking when I rebuilt my garage too, (below)

But that's because most people are afraid of a lot of things. Building stuff out of their comfort level is usually one of them. The garage is done, sheetrocked and heated inside for my favorite toy. It only took me 4 months of saturdays a few weekdays after work, and about 3000 dollars. During a huge project, there is a time when you look around and think about how much is going on, and how it could all blow up in your face, it happens to everyone. You just have to learn to deal with it, and not panic. I look foward to the comments...haha


I'm sure some of you have pics of you're messed up house, or are all of you rich enough to just pay someone to do yours?

I think the key is being functional while reno'ing. If we were redoing are kitchen (hope to in a few years) I'd set up a temporary kitchen in the dining room, or maybe the basement or something. Stove, fridge, probably buy something that we could use as a work surface, something that will get us through the few weeks/months of the reno. The only major reno I've undertaken is finishing our basement after we bought the house. The only displacement there was putting my office in the dining room, which was no big deal because we'd just moved in and didn't have any dining room furniture yet, just our kitchen table and chairs. When we reno'd our upstairs bathroom (done by pros, not DIY), we had a bathroom on the main floor, including shower, to use in the meantime. I couldn't imagine trying to live and work in a space that's being reno'd.

Judging from the looks of your garage, you've got the ability to get the job done properly. It just always sucks while you're in the midst of it. And yes, I know that feeling halfway through when say 'what the f##k was I thinking starting all this?'

Would you expect to do a complete restoration on a rusty 911 and continue using it as your daily driver? Gut that kitchen, and get it done.....

I just did a kitchen in 2 weeks, including demo, reframing, and sheetrock. Had the cabinets and appliances delivered in the garage. first week was gut, rough electric and plumbing, frame and rock. Next week was install cabinets, flooring, appliances....

I did spend 4 years on my kitchen remodel .

My wife is very understanding considering the time, but we were only without a usable kitchen for about a week. The remodel included removing a load bearing wall and installing a beam so it wasn't just installing cabinets. Then my cabinet building buddy had back problems halfway though so I had to learn cabinet making.

The finished product looks great. Cherry cabinets, granite counter tops, all new lighting, the kitchen is opened up to the family room with a view of the big screen TV.

And the best part is the house creaks less now than before the wall was removed.

We did our Kitchen two years ago, I just took a week, gutted it and got her done, it was not bad and really the only way to do it for us, the wife would not put up with another dragged out project.

I would wonder why you are posting this wacky stuff here, because I see lots of evidence that those are two different garages in two totally different locations.

Based on the trees in the background of the top photo. They're not there in the bottom photo. And there are some utility poles in their place... and a chainlink fence visible to the left.

If you're gonna claim the bottom photo was taken from the opposite side, then you're also gonna have to claim that since the garage door and driveway would be facing the trees and that neighbor's fence that we see in the top photo...

...that he let you cut down his trees and tear down part of his fence so you could run a driveway through his property.

Not likely.

And you didn't say you moved the garage, and I'm guessing you would have said that if you had moved it.

So... why are you attempting to BS us? It's not very funny... and your "photo evidence" is certainly not very convincing.

Although I tend to follow the same approach as cgarr and Burnin' oil, I'll defend Gregrrr. I have a good friend that also does construction/building maintanence, etc. He has been in a constant remodel state of his house for 5+ years. Like Sidney said, time for other's projects just not your own.

The projects that my friend has completed look fantastic and most would be proud to have that quality of finished product in their house. However, many of his in-process states would make Gregrrr's look like a well planned and executed remodel. I visit my buddy once every year or so. Some things look exactly as they did a year ago, others are new undertakings and yet others have been completed. The economy, motivation, time and "found opportunities" decide his construction schedule.

The iron wire fence and the wooden fence are the same, the electricity lines are the same. The roof line is the same, shingles seem the same too. The angle is different.
And finally I cannot imagine why somebody would do what you suggested, I don't see a reason;
