I have a standard process for the treads.

Paint - Burnt Umber acrylic (old rust)
Wash - black oil point
Wash - umber oil paint
Dry Brush - Orange acrlyic (tank tracks would rust overnight)
Finsh - Dry brush - Silver enamel

Crazy I know

Can you explain the procedure for the Wash and Dry Brush stages?

Wayne, I stopped in a hobby shop last week and saw what you're talking about... basic, run-of-the-mill 1/25th car kits going for 22 bucks.

I didn't see any I wanted... plus, I have 10 or so unbuilt. :)

Hi Guys
I am moving the kits over to my shop, stacking them on a shelf there so I can better see what i have available. Bear with me, as we have several projects due in a week. so I don't always respond to your e mails as fast as i would like.

Good thing that I developed more stamina against keeping them :) Seeing the box art on some tugs at the collector/hoard strings :D

....... yeah, i did keep a FEW at home , but 98% have to go!

thanks
dave

Holy Moses. I just saw the same Pocher model I posted selling on ebay for $400-700. Granted, no bids on the $700. But $400!! For a model! It's just been keeping my Porsche posters flat for over five years now.

Crazy.

You think that's nuts, you ought to see some of the transkits that were made for the Pocher kits. I have some that were made for the Pocher F40 and you won't get much change out of a $2k bill if you buy one. The detail is quite impressive though - it makes a stock Pocher look like a Tonka toy.

Anyone interested in a 1/8th gas powered GT1? I built it, started it up, and shut it down. It was never put on the ground!

The other one is a 1/10th scale 993 GT2 with electric motor. Same thing, never ran on the ground.

Do you build 'em to sell on ebay, or did you intend to run them but decide not to compete in local races because you were concerned about the carnage?

I build them because I've been a Porsche addict since I was a little kid! I turned my model building hobby into a business back in the early 90s, selling Porsche diecast models and hand building custom painted models and garage dioramas for customers like Seinfeld, James Spader and others.
I never ran the GT1 because I realized that it was a very limited production kit from Tamiya. I blew up models as a kid only to see some of the mint condition ones worth BIG bucks now. Didn't think about stuff like that as a kid....but now I do!

Very cool, Rob. Do you have a website?

jyl 04-23-2010 01:02 PM

Very cool pics, Rob!

I only have one R/C car left, a Tamiya 959. I think my son is ready to get into R/C but I'll get him something more disposable.

Haven't built any static models in years (except for a bit of 1/35 Tamiya military). Have a few sitting unbuilt.

If I got back into static models, it would be to convert 1/24 cars into slot cars. But first need a track and space for it. Oh, I'm also getting interested in eventually building a scale R/C heli - but just dipping my toe into that hobby for now - free time is in short supply . . .

Thanks John.
We are working on setting up a site so we can sell the 1000 models that are in our collection. My wife took pics of each model and I documented the scale, manufacturer and estimated value of each one. I've been collecting and building Porsche models for 50 years and it's time for them to go to a new home. I would love to see the collection go to one person (like Jerry) but will break it up if the time comes.

berettafan 05-10-2010 04:56 AM

just picked up 3 plastic models at a yard sale for $1. 2 camaro's (69) and what turned out to be a Canepa big rig. started one of the camaros yesterday with my son. painted the body primer green and going to do no chrome. for $1 (or rather $0.33) it's fun. for $24 i'll go to ebay and buy a minichamps (yeah, i know + a few bucks).

those of you who have Michael's (craft store) nearby should note that they put out a 40% off coupon pretty regularly and that makes the models/paint much more reasonable.

My wife found this model a couple of years ago at a garage sale. Paid 25 cents for it.

Rob,

In addition to all those models, do you have all of the cars below now or is this in the past?

Really hoping its now and am dreaming of a garage large enough to hold all of these!

When I was a child I used to build Model airplanes...then I grew up and started to collect Spoons...

You find a nice complete Model in the box from yesteryear, you build it and you lose the value..

Yes Joe....Those are all in the garage!

OK, now that I enjoyed typing that......I'll be honest. Those are the Porsches I've owned since 1967. But only one right now. I had 3 at one time though, a couple different times.
