Rob,

I am available to be adopted! :)

Very, very nice and gives me something to shoot for!

If you do not mind, what part of the mountains are you located in?

OK, now that I enjoyed typing that......I'll be honest. Those are the Porsches I've owned since 1967. But only one right now. I had 3 at one time though, a couple different times.

Hi Rob,
I still feel very privileged for having had the opportunity to see your collection during our visit to Palm Springs back in spring 08. My two boys and myself met with your lovely wife. An event my boys still refer to on occasion.
Glad to finally 'meet' you on the net.

Kris

If so it is one of the finest I've ever seen.

Some of my modeling work....

Here are some pics of two Pocher Alfa models that I built about 30 years ago!
8C2300 racing car. Note wrapped steering wheel and exhaust....

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273717941.jpg

The small model Alfa monoposto is a pewter kit from England.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273718000.jpgRims and hubs were assemble and painted and then disassembled to have the spokes installed.

8c2300 Spider (road version of the first car). This kit had dark blue fenders with a cream body, but I thought it would look better in red and black so I painted the body parts..... note the rusted exhaust pipe!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273718120.jpg

The hardest part was getting the hood sections to fit properly. It is hinged so that it will fold up like the original. The emblem on the grill is about as large as a pencil eraser. I painted it with 7 different colors to match the Alfa emblem on the real cars.

Hey Joe....Thanks for the compliments. I'm in mile high Prescott. Next weekend (the 22nd) the P2P, Porsches to Prescott run and show is happening. Downtown around the old courthouse will be blocked off for all the Porsches.....come on up!

Hey Kris....I wish I had been home when you and the boys visited. JoAnne really enjoyed meeting you guys!

Porsche356A......You definately got my 58!!! You didn't also happen to get my 55 did you?
I'd love to have it back!

R K T -

It's funny, there was a silver 55 outlaw a few years back I almost did buy. If that was yours, I just missed it.

You have great taste in cars!

Do you have a model of that 58 for sale?

Absolutely stunning. How much time did you need to complete?

EDIT: There's one on ebay right now.

Build time

Garp,

Thanks for the nice review! It took me about a year and a half to build the two models. On the engine for the racing car I used the underside of the cylinder head as a "stamp" along with an ink pad and made a head gasket that shows all of the water passages, etc. Also, I drilled out the plastic spark plugs and used some extra screws and some very small white wire insulation to make real looking spark plugs! On these models the engine crank turns the crankshaft and the pistons move up and down, pressing the brake pedal expands the brake shoes and when you put the key in the ignition of the Spider (road car), the headlights come on! And the steering works of course. There are about 150 parts to each of the wire wheels and there are 3 different shaped spokes that go into different locations. Just building the wheels took weeks!

That's seriously impressive Fred. It's about the same time it took me to dissassemble and re-assemble my 911. I just showed the pictures to my two boys and they are equally in awe. :)

Actually, I do have a 1/18th scale of your 58.....somewhere! Since our move (escape) out of SoCal, all the models are in boxes, all 1000 of them. I'll see what I can find this weekend.
Our 55 Outlaw, BADMAX, was at EC for 1/2 day before we grabbed him. An incredibly obnoxiuos car! I would chase and catch Corvette's with max!

Not just cars......

Here is a model of the Titanic that I built from scratch for the local high school musical "The Titanic". I built a plastic scale model of the ship first so that I could get as much detail as possible. The finished model is about 6 or 7 feet long.

Yep that's the 55 I was going to buy. Small world.

Nice calendar shot of the '58. ;)

R K T 05-13-2010 02:32 PM

I bought the 55 in 2003 after it had sat in a "museum" for 12 years and it was a mess. The GT gas tank had pinholes that had sort of sealed, but when I got the car home it all let loose. I had to pretty much re-do the entire inside and had a custom fuelsafe tank made with all new aeroquip plumbing. I lost all control and went FULL concours at the PCA Parade in Fort Worth winning 1st place in Class and then Division......NEVER AGAIN! That was nuts.
EC wanted to buy it back and I sold it for 25K more than I paid for it. They sold it for 119K and later again for even more. It really was an incredible car.

Joeaksa 05-13-2010 03:54 PM

Rob,

Small world. Friend of mine runs an aircraft restoration shop at the Prescott Airport. Does mostly 1930's and 1940's "Golden Era" type airplanes. I come up and help from time to time but unfortunately he is in the middle of un-assing and moving everything to Oregon.

Next time I am in the area will give a shout.
