I still feel very privileged for having had the opportunity to see your collection during our visit to Palm Springs back in spring 08. My two boys and myself met with your lovely wife. An event my boys still refer to on occasion. Glad to finally 'meet' you on the net. Kris

Some of my modeling work....
Here are some pics of two Pocher Alfa models that I built about 30 years ago!
8C2300 racing car. Note wrapped steering wheel and exhaust.... ![]() The small model Alfa monoposto is a pewter kit from England. ![]() [ ![]() 8c2300 Spider (road version of the first car). This kit had dark blue fenders with a cream body, but I thought it would look better in red and black so I painted the body parts..... note the rusted exhaust pipe! ![]() The hardest part was getting the hood sections to fit properly. It is hinged so that it will fold up like the original. The emblem on the grill is about as large as a pencil eraser. I painted it with 7 different colors to match the Alfa emblem on the real cars. ![]() ![]()

R K T -
It's funny, there was a silver 55 outlaw a few years back I almost did buy. If that was yours, I just missed it. You have great taste in cars! Do you have a model of that 58 for sale? |

Build time
Garp,
Thanks for the nice review! It took me about a year and a half to build the two models. On the engine for the racing car I used the underside of the cylinder head as a "stamp" along with an ink pad and made a head gasket that shows all of the water passages, etc. Also, I drilled out the plastic spark plugs and used some extra screws and some very small white wire insulation to make real looking spark plugs! On these models the engine crank turns the crankshaft and the pistons move up and down, pressing the brake pedal expands the brake shoes and when you put the key in the ignition of the Spider (road car), the headlights come on! And the steering works of course. There are about 150 parts to each of the wire wheels and there are 3 different shaped spokes that go into different locations. Just building the wheels took weeks!

Not just cars......
Here is a model of the Titanic that I built from scratch for the local high school musical "The Titanic". I built a plastic scale model of the ship first so that I could get as much detail as possible. The finished model is about 6 or 7 feet long.

I bought the 55 in 2003 after it had sat in a "museum" for 12 years and it was a mess. The GT gas tank had pinholes that had sort of sealed, but when I got the car home it all let loose. I had to pretty much re-do the entire inside and had a custom fuelsafe tank made with all new aeroquip plumbing. I lost all control and went FULL concours at the PCA Parade in Fort Worth winning 1st place in Class and then Division......NEVER AGAIN! That was nuts.
EC wanted to buy it back and I sold it for 25K more than I paid for it. They sold it for 119K and later again for even more. It really was an incredible car.

Rob,
Small world. Friend of mine runs an aircraft restoration shop at the Prescott Airport. Does mostly 1930's and 1940's "Golden Era" type airplanes. I come up and help from time to time but unfortunately he is in the middle of un-assing and moving everything to Oregon. Next time I am in the area will give a shout. Joe A

I'm going to try and make it up to the P2P at the courthouse on Sat morning (I lived up there for eight years and miss it like crazy).
