Hi tell me i'm not crazy i just registered my old but new to me 1980 931 and the car is not even running .... i told my insurance agent ( state farm ) about this so he gives me a few options for insurance to make a long story short he says once it's up and running bring it in for a pic and the we can lower the cost by inserting in the fact that it is a classic but with full coverage right now i'm paying 96 dollars a month when he snaps a pic it will be 17 a month full coverage but what really gets me is that 17x12 is 204 which means it has cost me more money to register my car than it cost to insure it. that's a first, my registration fees came out to $242 dollars and that includes $75 title fee... wow you gotta love your state because they are doing everything thing they can to F---k us ...thanks

CA is worse.
I recently renewed the registration on my Mercedes. It was about 100 bucks out the door for everything. Ironically I had the bill for renewal in CA show up in the mail the same day (they're laughably still thinking I'm going to renew there even though I no longer live there). Guess how much. $500 I promptly threw it in the trash, smiling to myself. Living in the northeast DOES have its advantages. Did I mention that my CA car insurance policy was about $2,800 a year and now is about $400? Trust me, I know NY sucks but CA is far worse.

Every year when I renew my registration and get a new tag it cost me $23.50.

Yup, it sucks. NYS is so broke they are increasing the fees and taxes on everything.
Do increased registration fees translate into less pot holes or a better DMV experience? No. Just more money into the general fund to waste... |

I have State Farm "classic" insurance.
Read the fine print. There is a reason it is so much cheaper. I'm not saying it is bad. I have it, and it's fine. I'm just saying you should know what you are buying.

I think last year it cost about $250 to register in CA and this year was $500, so that's DOUBLE.
What is irksome about this is that unlike a fee for filing paperwork or a charge for a police detail or something like that which is justifiable and for which there's a legitimate purpose, car registration is WORTHLESS. It provides ZERO "value added" for the buyer. Think about it. What do you really get out of a registration? The "privilege" of driving YOUR car (for which you pay thousands in sales tax) using YOUR fuel (for which you pay a litany of state, local and federal taxes and it's 10% ethanol garbage anyway) on public roads which YOUR taxes paid for. Why is this necessary again? Oh yeah, the government needs more money to pay all them "po folk" who work down at the DMV so they can go get some mo' bling on their fingernails at the salon after work. Hmmm. Decisions. Keep my CA plates (designed to maximize LIDAR reflectivity so they can charge you MORE money, incidentally) for $500 or change over to here for 100 bucks. Gee, that's a toughie. Trust me, it did. ![]() Yes, I miss a lot about CA but not the blatant exploitation.

1/3 the cars in Brooklyn have out of state plates. 1/3 of the remaining 2/3rds register outside of the county. The most expensive insurance rates in the country, btw..

The crazy thing about CA is that they lowered the fees by 1/3 back when Davis was governor. The things they do. ![]() |
