Cleaning a Bathtub - FG
what is the best stuff to clean a fiberglass bathtub - one of the ones with the jets in it?
The 409 & KaBoom just don't seem to work that well, but I don't want to damage the FG... |

This past weekend I used Mr. Clean Magic Erasers on one in my house. I never knew it was shiny underneath all the soap scum. I soaked the tub with Kaboom first. Problem is the soap scum really wears away at the Magic Erasers and I went through a few of them. I never noticed it was nasty until a girl friend mentioned it.

KLR will clean just about anything but I don't know if it's okay for FG.

We have well water with iron in it. I use some stuff I got at Walmart made for boats called hull cleaner. Stinks real bad but took off any stain that was on it. Then I use wax like on a car and it last for 6-8 months. Then I do it all over again. One of the joys of country living!

After you get it cleaned up, try switching from a soap (Dial, Safeguard, Ivory, etc) to a Detergent (Zest).

thanks folks - no very little soap is used in that tub; mostly just my dirty greasy body and shampoo

Gel-Gloss, it is in a red and blue rectangular can. You can get it at Home Depot or any marine supply store. Works well on boats, bathtubs, and Corvettes I would imagine.

I found a god trick by accident. I bought some oven cleaner at the dollar store. It doesn't have the ingredients of something like EasyOff. It's just spray can lye. It really cleans and is easy to use. Not too good on the environment. (Had to mention that because of Randy.

The guy that repair our FG tubs during transport or what not will always use a polishing compound to clear anything you can't get out. Polishing compound is what I use every couple or three years. Not rubbing, but polishing compound.
