S2 is cheaper and MUCH easier to work on yourself.

I see that you drive on the wrong side of the road...
In that case, the 987's steering steering column doesn't have to go right by hot exhaust headers...

Agreed. I love the S2 cab. Arguably inferior to the 968 but have you seen the difference in parts prices?
The 968 engine/drivetrain is somewhat more evolved, but fundamentally the same. The S2 is probably 80% of the 968, mostly different sheet metal and a slightly different looking interior. In fact the 968 was originally called "mostly new" by Porsche (which probably contributed to its short production run) and was originally going to be branded the S3. I'd buy either. I very seriously looked at an S2 cabrio after my 951 burned up but opted for the 911 instead. I guarantee there's either a 968 or an S2 (probably a 968) in my future as a present for the wife. I almost bought her a 968 some years ago (should have). In time...

I'm having much the same debate. When it's time to get back into a car, I'm thinking:
S2 986S 996 Corvette Z06 The advantage to the S2 is that I'm already quite familiar with what I'm getting in to. The 986S is just plain cool. The 996 is the most expensive on the list, but it also has a back seat. The Z06 is probably the cheapest to run/maintain on the list.

The Z06 ain't cheap though and likely will hold its value for a while. By contrast they've tanked the prices on C5 vettes. There's a nice one for sale by me for under $9k. Tempting, but no - I've got other priorities right now.

There's a 2001 (C5) Z06 for sale by me for $18,000. 2001 had the smaller engine than Z06's in later years, but it's still good for 385 hp.
I wouldn't touch a "regular" C5 Corvette. The C6 Corvettes are up to 450 hp for the base model, 550 hp for the Z06, and 650 for the ZR1.

I wouldn't touch a corvette older than about '06
Back on topic.... The boxster will be faster around the track for sure.... But.... For just knocking around town and the twisites...... I'd rather have the s2.... |

ok to muddy the mix a bit
1> Bring my s2 cab, which I know inside out back to front, but RHD. only paying for shipping (but need a container anyway), insurance company cant even locate the s2 so are asking me for the vin, they only have 928, 911, 's !!! (insurance Full/comprehensive coverage $370, basic/3rd party coverage $290, limited mileage i.e. 5000km I forgot what he quoted) 2> the 987 will be canadian bough, so LHD, more money but better resale, the 2.7 base model, insuranmce want, For the other Porsche left hand drive he quoted $251 /month more importantly I just love that bloody s2 ! at times she'#s been a right mare but............... ![]() ![]()

The S2 might be worth more over here being a RHD.... But it may be hard to find the RHD specific parts....

987 Boxster all the way.
Someone post a photo of the two cars side by side. You decide.

After owning a 968 Cab, I'd get another one over an S2 Cab or a Boxster.
