Purchased a new 1977 MG MGB from a Buick dealership in Yuba City......returned it to them in less than one year........broken again. Remember picking it up from the "Dealership" after they replaced the transmission and it generated a strange rattle while driving?? Had a closer look and found a 1/2" boxend wrench "trapped" on the head of a smaller metric bolt inbetween the engine and the trans. They couldn't get it off so they just left it.

Bought a new 1999 3/4 ton Chevy PU, have replaced enough stuff to buy it again and it only has 58,000 miles on it. Both door sag because the piviot pins are worn out. I laugh at Chevy TV commercials, Ha! "best built-longest lasting".

Chevy has built much better trucks. They made a lot of non-cosmetic improvements in the mid-cycle refresh around 2003 or so, and the new truck from 2007 on are light years better than they used to be.

My truck hasn't been in for much more than tire rotations and oil changes. I did have to replace the OEM tire after 30,000 miles, but most OEM tires on trucks are crap these days. (The truck makers make the tire manufacturers make special light tire to improve handling, but they don't last very long.) I also had to have it in to have the tire monitoring computer reprogrammed after I had a non-dealership rotate the tires and failed to reprogram it myself. (The procedure is a little more complicated than laid out in the manual.)

1997 Chevy S-10, without a doubt. I bought it in 2000 with pretty low miles but it didn't take long to start falling apart. Transmission fell apart (the most expensive car bill I've had to date), wheezy engine, and an uber-cheap interior (even for a Chevy). One of the last times I brought it to a mechanic, he seemed surprised it was still running and said the engine it had "didn't usually last this long." My next car was a Nissan, which was like a breath of fresh air after that.

1997 Land Rover Discovery. Handled great, lots of room, but what a POS. Everything on that vehicle has issues. Rust, brittle plastic interior, window regulators that would literally fall apart, Lucas electrics, etc. I even had sciatic nerve problems that started shortly after buying it and went away when I got rid of it. Traded it for my 4Runner and couldn't be happier.

1993 Grand Jeep Cherokee Limited (bought new). Biggest issue (but not the only) was the door key that would set off the alarm whenever used in the LF lock, especially in crowded public places and never at the dealer. Finally took a letter to Mr. Iacocca to have a crew come to the house, pick up the vehicle and replace the entire door.

Second worst was a 1995 Saturn SC1 (new) that would die at 80 mph or when brakes were applied in a more-than-gentle manner. However, the entertainment it provided by scaring my passengers was priceless- I'd throw it into neutral and restart it . . . usually while coasting in front of 18 wheelers on the interstate.

My father in law bought a Grand Am of that vintage for his wife. Got it new, and it broke down numerous times in the first few months he had it. He finally got tired of his wife being stranded by this lemon, and took it back. They did not want to take it back, initially. He threatened to "drive that POS right through the big window into the showroom" and they gave him the full purchase price as credit on a GMC truck. He paid cash for the car.

Worst car I ever had was a Ford Tempo. 1988, awful electrical problems.

Any/all forays into BMW products have proven emotionally and financially cataclysmic for me... '89 325i, '99 M-coupe, '08 Mini S. Fun to drive, but problems and dealer games mean 'never again'...

I'd rather drive a Renault 'Le Car'... or a tricycle

Yep. It didn't handle all that great (actually for the type of car it was, it handled really great, but in the grand scheme of things it was not a good handler), but MAN was it freaking fast in a straight line.

My Toyota truck was about an 87 IIRC, and it had the same problem, but in my case it was the body. Totally rust eaten, and it was barely over 10 years old when i owned it.

Was a great off road car for what it was. I was able to go thru really small trails with it. Freeway was another story. If I truck passed by me I would be in another lane. 0-60 in 3 minutes!

Best/worst was a Suzuki samarai. Diff locked of on freeway and almost flipped it.

So you loved it until it almost killed you?

I know the feeling.

Fiat X1/9.....(1976 new, 1975 used)

I thought I'd add a little more info. The parts quality and general unreliability is what I am referring to. When they ran the X1/9s were a joy! Underpowered but still the most tossable and easiest car to drive at the limit I've ever sat in.
