FIxed iPhone

Cracked the glass on my second one recently and had not gotten around to ordering the part.

Coworker soaked his on a camping trip two weeks ago.

He tried to dry it but it was DOA. Every moisture sensor was tripped so it got pretty wet.

Gave it to me, five minutes, 1 screwdriver, 1 xacto knfe and screen swap complete.

Piece o cake.

Was hoping his LCD was not fried which it thankfully was not so did not have to hassle with separating the glass from it.

Happy camper.

He took the water logged screen out of his buddy's iPhone and put it in his iPhone that had the broken screen.

10:1 his buddy didn't let his phone dry long enough. It would have worked if he'd waited longer and maybe used rice or a desiccant.

Replaced the phone jack on mine, and on my daughters and her screen last week. Not difficult, but boy are those screws tiny, they were half the job. Mine $3.49, hers $14.49

Agree there was a good shot it should have come back to life and honestly I did try swapping batteries but NG.

On a recent work trip a coworker dropped her Blackberry into water. Fortunately we were visiting the Georgia Tech Research Institute, who happens to have environmental chambers on-site. I can now affirm that a few hours in an environmental chamber at 120 F with low humidity will effectively bring a phone back to life. So if you need to save your $200 phone, invest in a $20,000 environmental chamber.

I'm surprised. I've had my G1 completely submerged (a couple of inches) in clean water twice. A little drying time (2 weeks each time) and it's running like a top to this day. I've heard that iPhones are wusses when it comes to water, but I've also heard that folks have them come back.

I had a digital Seiko watch back in the 80s that got washed in the washing machine multiple times with a broken crystal, full of water, dried out and it was fine. That worked until I accidentally dunked it in the ocean. Salt water and digital watches are a bad combo. Wish I still had that watch.

My wife dropped her Blackberry in a puddle of mud at a construction site.

Was there for a couple of hours before she found it.

Took it apart, mud in every nook n cranny. Hit it with a fresh soft bristle toothbrush. Worked fine.

Sometimes you get lucky.

Guessing it may depend on what mode the phone was it when it took on water. If the radio was full power on, probably worse chances than if the unit was hibernated or powered down. Just a guess.

isopropyl alcohol will displace all of the water, then it evaporates rapidly.
