Top Shot
Did anyone catch the premiere on History of this show? What do you guys think?
My thoughts: It’s Survivor with guns, except that all of the “challenges” are shooting-related. The first episode was an hour long. The first 15 minutes were a team challenge, the next ˝ hour was manufactured drama, and the last 15 minutes were a shoot-off between the two people who had gotten the most votes for elimination. The show wouldn’t be so bad if they cut out the middle ˝ hour. The show would be even better if they cut out the last 15 minutes and had everyone stay in to the end, top-scoring shooter takes all. Sending people home because of group politics doesn’t establish who the best marksmen is. The whole “voting off” thing is overplayed IMO. The strategy is well-established. Winning the game has nothing to do with winning the challenges. ********** SPOILERS.... ********** I didn’t understand why everyone thought Mark was such a good shooter given that he choked during both challenges. I also don’t understand why Kerry was almost voted off when he was clearly the best during the first challenge. Methinks the producers were creating some drama.

I thought it was manufactured drama too. The kid was much better at getting his hits than the retired sniper, or whatever he was. I was mildly entertaining but I will probably not Tivo it.

I watched it and thought it could be good. However, as was mentioned, they wrecked it by turning it into Survivor. I just don't understand why they can't leave everyone in and shoot different weapons each week. That way the person that wins would be the best shot.
As was mentioned, winning this thing has little to do with being a good shot. Like Survivor, if a guy shows himself to be a great shot they are more likely to try and get rid of him. I just hate that concept. |

As a life-long avid match competitor, I'm here to tell you - real shooting competitions are boring as hell as a spectator sport, and therefor, as a television sport. They obviously felt they had to spice it up a bit to have any prayer of their audience even making it to the first commercial. That, and a real "shooting" audience just wouldn't provide the viewing numbers. Thefolks tuning into this are watching the various Survivor spin-offs, Pinks, the various car and bike building shows, and others with manufactured drama. It's a formula. Just swap shooting for any one of those other activities.

Not terribly fond of the show but I'll keep watching only because a few of my shooting buddies are in it. (one less now)

Get off my lawn!

I turned it on and saw 5 minutes of guys arguing. Not one shot was fired. I lost interest. I checked it 30 minutes later and it was guys arguing again. WTF!
I gave up. I would rather go to the dentist than watch guys argue. Show me some shooting, not another argument.

I had it on as "background" -- like I "watch" baseball -- but I'm pretty much with Glen on this one.
AND ... it didn't teach anything about shooting. Rather than the manufactured drama, they could've discussed a bit about ballistics, compensation, windage, spin drift, etc. JP
