Yeah, I've always wanted something like that. The Porsche looks w/o all that great German engineering. Just a big hunk of schit in the back seat. Gets me excited just thinking about it.

Pretty interesting but I would never have used that motor, maybe a Northstar or Small Block Aluminum Chevy.

Not a bad effort, I reckon. Interesting that he thought that the Targa would be stiffer than the coupe? Maybe ,with the rear seat tin removed.
Must do some research on that TH425 trans--might be useful! |

If I'm going mid-engine big block, I'll take a Pantera thanks.

The luggage engine cover is a nice touch.

No doubt, must really keep the noise levels down when the right bank of cylinders is all of 18" behind your head.

Looks fairly clean with nice detail.
However.... this statement gives me pause: "....I chose a Targa body because of the extra unibody rigidty provided to help ....." This after removing the rear engine crossmember. if the owner relied on a Targa chassis to provide the needed rigidity to house an 8 liter engine, he's merely hoping and wishing or expecting the new owner to do so. Would make a nice cruiser and conversation piece. Anything more (like driving it at speed) and it could be dangerous. The weight distribution will change from 60-40 to at least 63-37 f/r. BTW, the Caddy V8 weighs 595 lbs. by itself (w/o trans) + cooling system 3.2 l 911 is about 410; turbo about 510. MHO, Sherwood |

+1 on what Sherwood said!
Respray! car used to be yellow, I think. if you look at the rest of the pics, look at doorgaps, seems, seals between panels, always yellow paint showing.... ![]() The person that buys this car for that amount money is an idiot. And with all due respect, but the guy that fu(ked up a perfectly good Targa, isn't any better...

That was my favorite aspect of the car.
Imagine when someone breaks in to steal such a purdy set of luggage and finds a Caddy V8 under there. LOL

Where's all the usual haterz to say "oh it's just a targa"?
In all fairness this looks like a pretty decent (though not fabulous) conversion. It's reasonably clean and is far better than most of the usual abortions that come up on FeeBay regularly. Even so, it's nowhere near worth the kind of money he's asking - you can get a very nice M3 for that. Or Boxster. Or two decent SCs. I can see the appeal. When confronted with the choice of "do I spend $15,000 rebuilding an underpowered four cylinder 912 engine just to be authentic" or to do what he did for about the same, why not? At the end of the day not all 911s (or 912s) are restoration quality. And FWIW I can appreciate what he did and the effort in it. As someone said above though I'd be concerned about frame rigidity with that much torque. And this would DEFINITELY be a car you wouldn't want to lift on in a turn - EVER. I kinda' like it. And it's got a hell of a lot less gooey oil on the underside than most 911s/912s I've seen. Nowhere near worth that money though. If he were asking $17-$18k I'd consider it as a track toy. Probably scary wide open (but with a lot of reinforcing and a cage first).

It looks VERY well done. I'd love to be able to drive the car for a day liability-free (if something breaks). I wouldn't want to own it though.

Who wouldn't bite if they were tossed the keys and told "drive it like a rental car, don't worry about it."
