Another cop vs dog incident.
Sorry, This is another disturbing thing to see.
![]() Looks to me that this was totally uncalled for. Fast foward to about 5:15 LAGRANGE, Mo. (WGEM) -- The LaGrange Police Department is coming under fire from the community after a video posted on YouTube and Facebook. The video shows a LaGrange police officer shooting and killing a mixed-breed pit bull. According to police reports, the dog acted aggressive toward officers and a young child. But the owner is telling a different story. "She was a big dog, she was playful, she liked to jump around. But she's never acted aggressively toward anybody," says the dog's owner Marcus Mays. Mary Coleman says the dog attacked her six-year-old daughter. "I hear a big dog growling and I turn around and it was running towards us. I shut my daughter behind me and I started to yell and kick at it," Coleman said. It was late March when Coleman and her daughter were waiting for the bus. A dog wrestled out of its leash and came running at Coleman's daughter. Coleman was able to fight off the dog and go back to her trailer to call police. "It followed me down here and it started acting real calm again. I got the chain around it and fed it some dog food. That might have been the trick, feeding it dog food," Coleman said. According to the video, the dog looks calm as officers put a collar around its neck and only gets agitated when police use an animal restraint pole. "These are the people that are protecting the town and they can't even load a dog up into the vehicle? Don't have enough sense to put the pet taxi on the ground," Mays said. Now that the dog is gone, both Mays and Coleman are left wondering if killing the dog was the right thing to do. "I felt really bad, I really did. I was like I didn't want them to kill it, I just wanted to get it away from here," Coleman said. "She came down here and in her last moments she was terrified trying to get away and this is the spot they shot her at," Mays said. The La Grange Police Department says they cannot comment because the case is under investigation. Mays was cited for having a vicious animal. He pleaded not guilty and his case is expected to go to trail on June 17.

They should be charged with cruelty to animals.
You put a strange devise (the noose) around any dogs neck and it will react as that one did. When the dog calmed down was when they shot it.

Have me banned if you wish. Thats the way I felt about the way they treated that dog. Enough said. Sorry if I offended you personally.

Those guys are obviously not the sharpest knives in the drawer. What they did to that dog is obscene. But how do you punish that kind of stupidity?

Ok..the cops obvisouly reacted poorly to this situation, no doubt. The dog was scared and just wanted to flee from the scene.
BUT..the dog should not have been running loose. The owner bears the responsibility of ensuring that their animal is restrained at all times. A chain on a collar is not sufficient. Had the dog been in a fenced in area, properly secured, this would have never happened. If this dog had bitten the small child...........

It's hard to understand the reason he shot the dog. Perhaps that was the whole intent before he got the animal restraint on it. But the dog in the grass before shooting it instead of on the road. Seems like the article says they already had aggresivness of the animal, so thier plan was to put it out, not truely restraint.
Just saying there is probably more to the story, and just this small clip is to inciting anger. But you could be right. Perhaps the cops are just morons that don't like dogs. In that case, charges should be filed. But there's not enough evidence to show why they did what they did.

Here is a link to one of several articles in our local paper about dogs that got a second chance after mauling a man to the point he had to have his leg amputated! Oh - they took advantage of their second chance.
Not all dogs are killed - immediately anyway There is another hearing on the matter today - the dogs will likely be taken away from the owner, and hopefully euthenized.

my idiot neighbors let their large dogs run free all the time. Last night one of the dogs was out and attacked another neighbor walking their small dog. The guy picked up his small dog and jumped in the back of a pickup truck parked in someone's driveway to get away from the attacking dogs. Between him screaming at the attacking dogs and the dogs barking and growling it's head off it woke up half the neighborhood.
The owners of the lose dog came running over and tried to explain that the dog never does this, blah blah blah. This is the same dog that tried to jump over the our common fence barking it's head off anytime I step into my back yard. I've talked to the owners several times about the barking, the lack of my ability to use my back yard in peace any more and that their dogs should not be lose in the neighborhood. I keep getting the whole they are good dogs, would never hurt a flee crap. If one of their dogs even gets close to my kid in the wheelchair without a leash on I'm killing it. Period! People don't control their pets and then scream bloody murder when things happen to them. If the dog was on a leash it never would have happened. Steve

Bingo. When you leave it to others to control your pets, then you lose the right to complain about how they are dealt with. I'm a dog lover, and it breaks my heart to see that video, but who's to blame? Not the cops, not the dog...
